About our canopy cleaning in Brighton and Hove

Canopy cleaning is part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but some sites need the canopy done between full cleans. Where that’s the case, we will be clear that the ducts and fan are not included, so your records stay accurate. Common call-outs are for a hood coated in old grease and condensation running down the canopy, across plenum chambers, wall canopies and canopy light fittings.

Kitchens in towns like Brighton and Hove are often in older buildings that were never designed for them, so duct runs can be awkward, with bends, long horizontal sections and too few access panels. Sections we cannot reach are listed on the report, and access panels can be added.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

How the visit works

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. The more we can see of the system beforehand, the smoother the visit to Brighton and Hove will be.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use

Getting a quote

To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will usually have a quote within one working day.

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Give the canopy a wipe after service
  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy
  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Keep grease cups and drawers emptied

After the clean you get a photo report showing the canopy, plenum and housing before and after. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.

Empty the grease troughs and cups before they fill. Overflowing troughs are the usual cause of drips onto the range, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

Leave it or put it right?

A blocked plenum and clogged filters cut the airflow at the canopy. Smoke and heat hang around the cooking line, and the fan works harder for less. A clean canopy and plenum let the extract do its job. Whatever the system, dirt and wear only get worse.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

Signs you need canopy cleaning in Brighton and Hove

The canopy takes the hottest, wettest air in the kitchen. Fat in that air settles on the inside of the hood, in its seams and on the filters, and the plenum behind them collects the rest.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Filters that never seem to stay clean
  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
  • A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
  • Condensation running down the canopy

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Holy Cross Church or elsewhere in Brighton and Hove, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Common questions in Brighton and Hove

Does being near the coast affect canopy cleaning in Brighton and Hove?

It can. Brighton and Hove is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.

Which council inspects kitchens in Brighton and Hove?

Food hygiene inspections in Brighton and Hove are carried out by Brighton and Hove council. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Why does grease run off the canopy edge?

Typically because the troughs or gutters are full, or the plenum is overloaded. Grease has nowhere else to go, so it runs down and drips, and condensation can carry it too. Cleaning the canopy and plenum clears it.

Do you work in Brighton and Hove?

Yes. Our technicians work in Brighton and Hove, within the South East and London area we cover.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

What types of premises do you cover?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?

Out-of-hours cleans are how we work, at night, early in the morning or at weekends. We leave it clean and ready for the next service.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

When it’s something else

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

What the work covers

  • Plenum chambers
  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Grease gutters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Island canopies

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:

  • The number of sites or systems
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • A single visit or a regular plan

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

What we need to know

Many jobs can be priced from photos and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Canopy cleaning around Brighton and Hove

The coast is only about 1 mile from Brighton and Hove. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. The FSA’s data shows about 61 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 9 hotels and guest houses registered across Brighton and Hove and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. In Brighton and Hove, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Brighton and Hove council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Montefiore Hospital about 1.5 miles east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. If you cook for passing trade around Aldrington station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Brighton and Hove. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.
