Canopy cleaning for sites in Iford

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

About our canopy cleaning in Iford

Canopy cleaning is part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but some sites need the canopy done between full cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. If you have smoke hanging around the canopy during service and a hood coated in old grease, we can help, from wall canopies, island canopies and grease gutters onwards.

In a small place like Iford, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

A written report with pictures follows each visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Check filters are not leaving gaps
  • Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
  • Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
  • Flag any change in how the canopy behaves

Keep the photo report with your maintenance log where an inspector can see it. Before and after pictures speak for themselves.

Empty the grease troughs and cups before they fill. Overflowing troughs are the usual cause of drips onto the range, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

Questions from Iford

Can a school canteen extract in Iford be done out of term time?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. The FSA’s register shows about 3 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Iford. Just call 0345 646 2711 or email us with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.

Who inspects food businesses in Iford?

Kitchens in Iford are inspected by Lewes council’s environmental health officers. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

Why is my canopy dripping grease?

Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.

Are you accredited?

We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

How do you protect the area?

By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.

How much does canopy cleaning cost?

It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. To get one, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the site type, opening hours and a few pictures.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Why act early in Iford

Drips from a dirty canopy land on the cooking line. That’s a hygiene problem as well as a fire one, and EHOs look at the cleanliness of the premises and equipment. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to Iford is calmer for everyone.

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Part by part

Plenums and filter housings

The plenum is the space behind the filters where air gathers before entering the duct. Grease that slips past the filters settles there, and it’s cleaned every time we clean the canopy.

School and staff canteen kitchens

Lighter cooking still leaves grease on the canopy. BESA guidance still sets a minimum interval for the whole system, and the canopy is part of it.

What we do, step by step

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Iford.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions

How to get a quote

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you will usually have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

When it’s something else

Canopy cleaning cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before work begins. It won’t put right:

  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)
  • A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out
  • Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly.

Food hygiene inspections in Iford are the job of Lewes council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
