Canopy cleaning in Allhallows

We clean canopies in Allhallows when the kitchen is not cooking: after service, overnight or at the weekend. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered, and the kitchen is left ready for the next service. Common call-outs are for filters that never seem to stay clean and a filter housing caked in grease, on baffle filters, wall canopies and plenum chambers.

Somewhere as small as Allhallows, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The size of the system

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:

  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

What a clean won’t put right

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • A light fitting that does not work

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think.

Where we work

  • Grease gutters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Baffle filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Plenum chambers
  • Island canopies

Multi-site and managed buildings

Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Allhallows

Allhallows is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. Food Standards Agency records list about 4 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 4 sandwich bars and takeaways across Allhallows and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Food hygiene inspections in Allhallows are the job of Medway council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Chartwell Private Hospital is the nearest hospital to Allhallows, about 5.5 miles north. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of All Saints, or anywhere in Allhallows, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

When to call us in Allhallows

The plenum is hidden behind the filters, so nobody sees it build up. Daily cleaning reaches the canopy face but rarely gets further, so the plenum often carries months of grease.

What we’re most often called out for:

  • A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
  • Wet, greasy drips from the hood
  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning
  • Greasy streaks across the canopy

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Allhallows Primary Academy, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Common questions in Allhallows

Do you cover smaller places like Allhallows?

Yes. Allhallows is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Which fire service covers Allhallows?

It’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Allhallows. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

How much notice should we give?

The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes usually come back within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not normally. Visits are timed for when the area is closed, such as overnight or at a weekend, so you keep your normal hours.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line and we will talk you through the next steps.

What’s TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Which canopies and hoods do you clean?

We clean canopies in commercial kitchens of every kind. Whatever is cooked under it, the canopy is cleaned the same thorough way, with the equipment off and cool.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

The Fire Safety Order 2005 calls them the responsible person: often the employer, owner or occupier. Landlords, facilities managers and managing agents can also hold responsibility.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Allhallows knowing what to expect.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Preparing for the visit

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Clear the space around the work

Ask for a quote

For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We normally come back within one working day.

Related advice

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Leave it or put it right?

A canopy clean in Allhallows now stops the grease spreading further. It takes a few hours for most canopies, out of hours so service carries on. Put off, the grease simply moves further into the system. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before we start.
