About our TR19 inspection in Allhallows
BESA’s minimum cleaning frequencies depend on how long the kitchen cooks each day: every 3 months for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day, every 6 months for moderate use of 6 to 12 hours, and every 12 months for light use of 2 to 6 hours. Grease testing shows whether your kitchen needs cleaning more often than that. We are often asked to deal with confirming a clean reached the whole system and uncertainty over how often to clean, on post-clean checks, pre-clean surveys and insurer audits.
Somewhere as small as Allhallows, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
Every visit ends with a written report and pictures, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

For landlords and multi-site operators
From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Allhallows questions
Do you cover smaller places like Allhallows?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Allhallows is covered. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
Which environmental health team covers Allhallows?
The local authority for Allhallows is Medway council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Will you produce a report for our insurer?
Yes. Many insurers ask for proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection, and an audit report gives you that, with recommendations where something needs doing.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.
How much notice do you need?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
When should we have our next grease test?
That varies with the kitchen’s daily use. BESA sets minimum cleaning intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months by daily use, and testing shows if your kitchen needs more.
What does TR19 mean?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it and the fixed quote is built on it.
Kitchen extracts in Allhallows
The coast is only about 1 mile from Allhallows. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 3 bars, pubs and nightclubs in Allhallows and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Kitchens in Allhallows get their food hygiene inspections from Medway council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of All Saints, or anywhere in Allhallows, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. School kitchens, at schools like Allhallows Primary Academy for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Why act early in Allhallows
If a kitchen in Allhallows has been cleaned on the same calendar for years, there’s no way to know if that interval is right without measuring. Testing gives you the evidence to set it properly. It’s simpler to plan the work at Allhallows now than to arrange it in a hurry later.
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

How the job changes from site to site
Canopy and plenum
Clean-looking filters do not mean a clean plenum. That’s why we test behind them.
Vertical risers
Risers can be hard to get into. The survey shows exactly what access there is.
Common problems we fix in Allhallows
Records can go missing when a business changes hands or contractors. Without them, nobody knows how much grease is in the system or when it was last cleaned.
Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Parts of the system left out of past cleans
- Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
- Kitchens taken over with no cleaning records
- Heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts
A hospital like Chartwell Private Hospital, about 5.5 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
What to look for in a quote
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
- What paperwork you get at the end
- Whether the price is fixed
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
What staff can safely do
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.
What a clean will not put right
Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:
- Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet
- Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
- The responsible person’s own fire risk assessment
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

How the visit works
Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Allhallows and turn up when the site is quiet.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- The same access points are opened up.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.
Preparing for the visit
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Move anything stored near the system
Get a fixed quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
