About our TR19 inspection in Kew
TR19® Grease says grease should not exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you’re on. If you are dealing with cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen and surveys needed before quoting a full clean, we can put it right.
In a London area like Kew, a kitchen extract often passes through shared space on its way out: a riser, a service void, the floors above. A duct fire there can reach parts of the building far from the range, which is why keeping it clean to TR19® matters.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

What happens if it’s left?
If a kitchen in Kew has been cleaned on the same calendar for years, there’s no way to know if that interval is right without measuring. Testing gives you the evidence to set it properly. Shared walls, risers and roofs mean a problem at one London site seldom stays put.
We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and we will explain what it covers.

What a clean will not put right
TR19 inspection can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:
- Ductwork that was designed or installed badly
- Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
- Hidden runs that need access panels first
If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you a straight answer.

The process
Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. In a London area like Kew, parking, loading and building access are planned before the day of the work.
- We go through any past certificates and reports.
- We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
- Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
- We measure the grease and photograph each point.
- We report back with readings and a fixed quote.
How to prepare
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Ask for a quote
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few pictures and any previous report or certificate. Then phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
Advice
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
FAQs for Kew
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Kew?
London Fire Brigade is the fire and rescue service for Kew. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
What do you need to know about parking in Kew?
London parking can be tight, so details of loading bays and permits help. Working overnight, as we often do in London, usually makes it simpler.
What is grease thickness testing?
WFTT and DTT are the two methods for measuring grease thickness, in microns. Readings are taken at set points through the system.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.
What types of premises do you cover?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
What is post-clean verification?
Post-clean verification is a check after a clean, with fresh grease readings and pictures. It can follow our own cleans or another contractor’s.
What happens to the waste?
It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.
How much does TR19 inspection cost?
We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before we start.
What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- A single visit or a regular plan
- Whether several sites go on one quote
Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we’ll price it together.
What we need to know
You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:
- The postcode and the type of business
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
To get a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. We usually come back within one working day.
Other services in Kew
Keeping the system healthy
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Diary the next grease test and clean
- Tell us if menus or opening hours change
- Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
- Keep the route to access panels clear
You get a report with the grease readings, where they were taken and photos of each point. Keep it with your fire safety and TR19 records.
Clean, correctly fitted filters stop more grease reaching the duct. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.
How the job changes from site to site
Canopy and plenum
The plenum behind the filters can carry a lot of grease. We take readings there and photograph it as part of every survey.
Vertical risers
Access to risers is often limited. We record what can and can’t be reached.
What TR19 inspection looks like in Kew
According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 64 pubs, bars and clubs and about 10 hotels and B&Bs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Kew. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. The fire and rescue service for Kew is London Fire Brigade. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Night work suits London kitchens, and roads and loading bays tend to be quieter too.
A hospital like Barnes Hospital, about 1.5 miles south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. If you cook for passing trade around Chiswick station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Paul's Church or elsewhere in Kew, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
