TR19 inspection across Highbridge

TR19 inspection in Highbridge, done properly

BESA sets minimum cleaning intervals by daily use: every 3 months for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day, every 6 months for moderate use of 6 to 12 hours, and every 12 months for light use of 2 to 6 hours. Grease testing shows whether your kitchen needs cleaning more often than that. The work covers deposit thickness tests, wet film thickness tests and pre-clean surveys, and common reasons people get in touch are cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen and pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

The process

We are used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. Somewhere like Highbridge, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. First we book a time that will not disrupt cooking.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. The findings go into a report with readings, pictures and a recommended next clean.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Getting a quote

For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.

Highbridge questions

Do you work at weekends in Highbridge?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. It means the site in Highbridge keeps running as normal. When you ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, mention when the site is quiet.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Highbridge?

Fire safety enforcement in Highbridge is handled by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.

Do you carry out TR19 audits for insurers?

Yes. Insurers often want evidence the extract is managed to TR19®, and an audit report gives you that, along with any actions needed.

How much time does an inspection need?

An inspection takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. Large or multiple systems take longer, and you can call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos to book it in.

What grease levels does TR19 allow?

TR19® Grease says grease should not go over a mean of 200 microns between cleans. 500 microns or more at any point calls for immediate spot cleaning.

What do you do with what you remove?

We contain it and take it with us. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

For landlords and multi-site operators

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

Grease, kitchens and Highbridge

Food Standards Agency records list about 10 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 7 takeaways in Highbridge and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Each kitchen extract among them can be measured for grease to set the right cleaning interval. In Highbridge, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Winchester City council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Highbridge is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Colden Common Primary School or anywhere near Highbridge, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Mary's Church, or anywhere in Highbridge, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Signs you need TR19 inspection in Highbridge

Looking at a canopy tells you little about what’s in the duct. Clean filters can hide a heavy layer behind them, so readings are the reliable guide.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Missing access panels found on survey
  • Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
  • Systems that need surveying before cleaning
  • Insurers asking for TR19 evidence

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Moorgreen Hospital about 4.3 miles south, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Proof of insurance
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

Leave it or put it right?

Do not wait for an EHO visit or insurance renewal to find gaps in your extract records. A recent inspection report means you’re ready when asked. Somewhere as small as Highbridge, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

Part by part

Extract fan and discharge

The discharge at the end of the system is checked as well, since grease reaches the very end of the system.

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

A kitchen running from breakfast to late service builds grease quickly. Readings show if the cleans are frequent enough.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
