Kitchen extract cleaning across SO50: what to expect
We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Common call-outs are for ductwork thick with old, hardened grease and stale cooking odours from the system, on extract fans, canopies and hoods and discharge points.
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. After that, the work takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
- Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
- We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
- Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
- The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.
What you’ll pay

Get a fixed quote

What’s near Eastleigh
We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Quilley School of Engineering, Lakeside Country Park and Church of the Resurrection, among other places. Other local landmarks include The Wagon Works pub (under half a mile north-west) and Norwood Primary School (0.5 miles west). There’s a railway station in Eastleigh itself: Eastleigh station. Nearby you’ll also find Moorgreen Hospital (2.9 miles south) and Eastleigh Museum (less than half a mile west). The countryside around Eastleigh includes Flexford Nature Reserve.
Kitchen extract cleaning around SO50
From Eastleigh, Allbrook and Boyatt Wood to its smaller places, SO50 has kitchens of every size. Every one gets the same full TR19® clean, from the canopy to the discharge.
Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites across SO50 don’t have to lose a day.
Eastleigh: A kitchen near Eastleigh station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Norwood Primary School or anywhere near Eastleigh, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
What happens if it’s left?
There’s no law that names TR19, but the Fire Safety Order 2005 still applies. It puts a duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and in a kitchen that means keeping extract grease under control. Cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve done it.
Questions to ask before you book
- Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- Whether they’re fully insured
- What paperwork you get at the end
What affects the quote in SO50
We don’t publish a price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Parking and loading at the site
No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.
What we need to know
A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Problems your staff have spotted
For kitchen extract cleaning in SO50, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, plus pictures or the previous report if they’re to hand. We typically send a fixed quote within one working day.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Signs you need kitchen extract cleaning
Grease in the extract matters because it burns. A flare-up on the range can be drawn up into the canopy and duct, where burning grease can carry a fire along the ducts and into other parts of the building. For a kitchen in SO50, keeping that fuel under control is part of the fire risk assessment.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- A smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction
- Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
- An inspection that picked up a dirty extract
- A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history
When it’s something else
We will not sell you work that does not address the problem, so here are the limits:
- A grease trap that needs emptying
- A fan motor that has burnt out
- Faulty fire dampers in the duct
SO50: your questions answered
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, as well as food production and leisure sites.
What should I send you?
Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we’ll quote them together.
What accreditations do you hold?
Our work is to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, and certificates go through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009.
Why do insurers care about extract cleaning?
Grease in an extract is a known fire risk, which is why many insurers require TR19 cleaning. Our certificate and photo report give you that evidence.
How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?
Under BESA guidance, the minimum depends on how long you cook each day: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Grease readings can show a shorter interval is needed.
Will I get a certificate after the clean?
You receive a TR19 certificate and a photo report. The certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, and the report shows before and after photos, readings, any areas not reached and the next clean date.
