About our TR19 inspection in Heathfield

Under TR19® Grease, the mean grease thickness should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you’re on. If you have parts of the system left out of past cleans and confirming a clean reached the whole system, we can help, from insurer audits, deposit thickness tests and post-clean checks onwards.

For a smaller kitchen near Heathfield, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with pictures of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Different parts, different methods

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Hospital and care home kitchens can cook all day, every day. Readings show if cleaning is frequent enough.

Horizontal duct runs

Bends and long runs can hold heavy deposits, out of sight of the kitchen.

What happens if it’s left?

A check after cleaning shows whether the work reached every part it should have, before the next clean is due. Light use slows the build-up but does not stop it.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before we start.

What we do, step by step

At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. Around Heathfield, access is typically simpler than in a town centre, though gates and roof access are worth mentioning.

  1. The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
  4. Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, pictures and next steps.

Getting ready for the visit

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so each one has its own record.

FAQs for Heathfield

Does the sea air around Heathfield make a difference to TR19 inspection?

It can. Salt air reaches Heathfield, which is within about 3 miles of the coast, and it speeds up rust. We look at fans, cowls and fixings for rust as well as grease.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Heathfield?

In Heathfield, it’s Fareham council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, and the emergency line covers the rest.

What is TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Do you work out of hours?

Yes. Much of our work happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so you don’t have to close during trading.

How often should a kitchen extract be inspected?

That varies with the kitchen’s daily use. BESA’s minimum cleaning intervals are every 3, 6 or 12 months for heavy, moderate and light use, and testing shows if your kitchen needs more.

Can you verify a clean after it’s been done?

Post-clean verification is a check after a clean, with fresh grease readings and pictures. It can follow our own cleans or another contractor’s.

What types of premises do you cover?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

How we price TR19 inspection

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • The size of the system

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What we need to know

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and any previous report or certificate. Then give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

Heathfield kitchens: local notes

At about 3 miles from the coast, Heathfield is close enough for sea air to matter. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 21 pubs, bars and clubs within about 1.5 miles of central Heathfield. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Fire safety in Heathfield falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

A hospital like Knowle Hospital, about 2.1 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Ranvilles Infant School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. If you cook for passing trade around Fareham station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

When it’s something else

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • The responsible person’s own fire risk assessment
  • Design faults in the extract system
  • The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly.
