Extract fan cleaning in Heathfield, done properly
The extract fan is the heart of the system: it draws the air through the canopy and ductwork and pushes it outside. Whatever grease slips past the filters and duct reaches the fan, and that’s what we clean. If you are dealing with thick grease on the impeller and casing and an extract fan that vibrates or rattles, we can help.
Kitchens around a place like Heathfield are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.
We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What happens if it’s left?
A fan that sounds rough in Heathfield is often telling you the extract needs a clean. If the fan is coated, the duct before it normally is too so a full TR19 clean may be due. It’s easy to lose track of when the work was last done on a quieter site.
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.

What we do, step by step
The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Your opening hours decide when we come to Heathfield, not ours.
- The fan is found and its type, access and isolation checked.
- We isolate the power before opening the housing.
- Grease is scraped off the impeller blades and casing.
- The fan is degreased, taking care around the motor.
- It’s closed up, run, checked and photographed for the report.
Preparing for the visit
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Tell us where we can park and unload

Advice
What your team can do, and what needs us
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Heathfield: your questions answered
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Heathfield?
Kitchens in Heathfield are inspected by Fareham council’s environmental health officers. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Heathfield?
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Heathfield. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Is Heathfield in your area?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, Heathfield included.
What makes a kitchen extract fan vibrate?
Often it’s grease on the impeller. Grease collects unevenly and unbalances the impeller, causing vibration and noise. If cleaning does not, the bearings or motor may need attention.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. We always survey first, from your photos and details, or with a visit where necessary. Then you get a fixed quote.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you’ll get one fixed quote.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. The law sets the duty, and TR19® is the recognised benchmark for meeting it. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and without records, many insurers may refuse or reduce a claim.
Are you accredited?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.
When something else is needed
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A fan that won’t start
- Wiring faults to the fan
- Grease in the duct and canopy before the fan (those need a full TR19 clean)
If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you a straight answer.

Heathfield kitchens: local notes
Sea air reaches Heathfield, which sits within about 3 miles of the coast. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 21 bars, pubs and nightclubs in and around Heathfield, up to about a mile and a half out. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Heathfield sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Columba or elsewhere in Heathfield, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. For schools such as Ranvilles Infant School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Do you need extract fan cleaning in Heathfield?
A fan in Heathfield builds up grease at a rate set by the kitchen, not the location: daily hours and the amount of frying and grilling. BESA guidance sets minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months for the whole system by daily use.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- A fan shaking on its mounts
- Fat spreading onto the roof or wall by the fan
- Less air being pulled from the kitchen
- Grease around the motor and its mounts
A hospital like Knowle Hospital, about 2.1 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Other services in Heathfield
Part by part
Roof-mounted fans
Roof fans sit at the top of the riser. They’re cleaned where safe access allows, and anything we can’t reach is recorded.
Fan housings and motors
Inside the casing, grease is thrown onto the walls. It’s scraped and degreased with the impeller.
For landlords and multi-site operators
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Hampshire. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.
