About our TR19 inspection in Hale
Post-clean verification is a check carried out once the cleaning is done, with new readings and photos of the cleaned areas. It gives you evidence of how the system was actually left. The work covers access surveys, wet film thickness tests and pre-clean surveys, and people most often call us about systems that need surveying before cleaning and checking the result of a recent clean.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Every visit ends with a written report and pictures, so there’s a dated record of the work. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

FAQs for Hale
Which fire service covers Hale?
Hale is in the area of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Hale in the summer holidays?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. There are about 12 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Hale. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.
What do you do to protect the area?
By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.
What information do you need?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
Are you accredited?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.
What if parts of the system can’t be reached?
They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
What staff can safely do
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
Do you need TR19 inspection in Hale?
Looking at a canopy tells you little about what’s in the duct. A system can look clean at the filters and be heavily coated further in, so readings are the reliable guide.
Common reasons sites call us are:
- Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
- An insurer’s request for a TR19 audit
- Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
- Systems that need surveying before cleaning
School kitchens, at schools like Farnham Heath End School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
Before booking anyone
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
- When the next visit should be, and why
- If they look at the system before pricing
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
What TR19 inspection cannot fix
Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:
- The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person
- Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
- Hidden runs that need access panels first
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think.

What we do, step by step
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Seeing the system in photos first means the trip to Hale can be planned properly.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- The same access points are opened up.
- Grease readings are taken again at set points.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.
Preparing for the visit
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

What TR19 inspection looks like in Hale
Food Standards Agency records include about 27 pubs and bars and about 3 hotels and guest houses across Hale and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. In Hale, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Waverley council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. The fire and rescue service for Hale is Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Farnham Castle is about 1.1 miles south-west), access may need planning. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near The Church of St John the Evangelist or elsewhere in Hale, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Why act early in Hale
Skipping grease testing leaves the cleaning interval to guesswork. If grease reaches 500 microns anywhere, TR19® Grease calls for immediate spot cleaning, which you won’t know without measuring. Somewhere as small as Hale, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

Aftercare tips
Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
- Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request
- Report grease dripping from the canopy
- Never cook with filters missing
The audit report is set out to pass straight to your insurer or broker, including readings, photos and any inaccessible sections.
Keep filters clean and in place. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.
