Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Hale

Think of the grease trap as a filter for the kitchen’s drains. Kept clean, it does its job quietly but left too long, it causes trouble. A regular clean keeps it healthy. We are often asked to deal with a kitchen drain that smells and washing-up water that won’t drain away, on kitchen waste pipes, school and care home kitchens and pot wash sinks.

Rural kitchens may drain to a septic tank or a private drain rather than straight into a public sewer, and fat getting past a grease trap can cause real trouble there.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

How it works

Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. For a village or hamlet like Hale, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
  2. Nothing drains into the trap while it’s open.
  3. We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
  4. Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
  5. Once it’s refitted, water is run through to check it drains, and we take the waste with us.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Getting a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.

Advice

When to call us in Hale

Fats, oils and grease from cooking and washing up go down the sink. In the trap, they cool and separate, and the layer gets thicker day by day.

Look out for these warning signs:

  • An interceptor full of grease and solids
  • A blocked kitchen drain caused by grease
  • Gurgling drains in the kitchen
  • An overdue grease trap

If you run a kitchen in an older building near Hale, such as a historic house like Farnham Castle (about 1.1 miles south-west), older drains make a working grease trap all the more important.

What your quote should include

  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
  • What insurance they carry

Questions to ask before booking

FAQs for Hale

Can the work in Hale be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in Hale keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Do you clean school kitchens in Hale in the summer holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 12 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Hale. You can ring 0345 646 2711 or email us with the dates the site is empty.

How do you protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.

How far ahead should we book?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

Which sectors do you work in?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, as well as food production and leisure sites.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.

What’s TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

That depends on who controls the premises. The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, facilities manager or managing agent.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Aftercare tips

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep strainers in every sink
  • Get food waste into the bin, not the sink
  • Act on gurgling or smelly drains
  • Make sure the trap can be reached easily

The waste we remove leaves with us. There’s no greasy waste left on site after the visit.

Fat that escapes the trap hardens in the pipework. Once it’s there, it needs a drainage contractor to clear so prevention is the easier route.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Hale kitchens: local notes

The FSA’s data shows about 27 pubs, bars and clubs and about 3 hotels and B&Bs registered across Hale and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of them serving food has a kitchen that collects grease out of sight and drains that need protecting. In Hale, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Waverley council. The state of floors, drains and hard-to-reach corners all feeds into the inspection. Keeping a record of deep cleans and grease trap visits helps at inspection time.

If you run a care home or healthcare kitchen near Hale (the nearest hospital is Fleet Community Hospital, about 4.8 miles north-west), a grease trap on a set schedule avoids a blocked drain mid-service. A summer deep clean suits schools such as Farnham Heath End School, as the kitchen can be stripped back with no lunches to serve.

Hale is about 1 mile north of Farnham, in Surrey. Wherever you are in the GU9 postcode area, we can carry out grease trap cleaning at your premises. Hale is one of 395 towns, villages and districts in Surrey where we work for commercial clients. There’s also a page for Guildford, roughly 9 miles from Hale.

Every address in GU9 is covered for grease trap cleaning, from the main roads to the quietest streets. That includes premises on Fairview Gardens, Farnborough Road and White Cottage Close and the roads around them. If your site is just outside Hale, we cover Heath End (1 mile north), Weybourne (1 mile north-east), Upper Hale (1 mile north-west), Badshot Lea (1 mile east) and Farnham (1 mile south). Within a short drive, we also cover Guildford (9 miles east), Woking (11 miles north-east), Camberley (8 miles north), Frimley (6 miles north), Haslemere (10 miles south) and Cranleigh (15 miles south-east).

What affects the cost of grease trap cleaning

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The number of sites or systems
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The condition we find in the survey

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What to send for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • A few general shots of the system

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

When it’s something else

In fairness, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • Blockages in the public sewer beyond the property
  • A leaking sink waste or trap connection
  • Drains that are cracked or have collapsed

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you a straight answer.
