TR19 inspection across Canada

What staff can safely do

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

How we handle TR19 inspection in Canada

Insurance policies often require evidence of TR19® cleaning and inspection. Missing records can lead to a claim being reduced or refused. Our TR19 audits give sites in Canada and across Hampshire a clear record of the system’s condition. The work covers post-clean checks, pre-clean surveys and access surveys, and the jobs we see most are extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean and kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with photos after every visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

Leave it or put it right?

An EHO visit, an insurance renewal or a fire risk assessment is a bad time to find your extract records are thin. A recent inspection report means you’re ready when asked. In a small place like Canada, a system that fails can take a site out of use.

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before any work starts.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

TR19 inspection around Canada

There are about 5 restaurants, cafés and canteens in Canada and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Where they cook under a canopy, a grease reading is the way to tell whether the extract is due a clean. It’s Test Valley council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Canada. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Canada sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

School kitchens, at schools like Wellow School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. A hospital like Tatchbury Mount Hospital, about 3.5 miles south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Historic houses near Canada, such as Landford Manor about 2 miles north-west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.

Canada is about 5 miles north-west of Totton, in Hampshire. We provide TR19 inspection for commercial premises of every kind in Canada and the rest of Hampshire. Our Hampshire coverage runs to 683 places, Canada among them. There’s also a page for Southampton, about 9 miles away.

TR19 inspection in SO51 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. Nearby, we also carry out TR19 inspection in West Wellow (1 mile north), Blackhill (1 mile east), East Wellow (1 mile east), Newbridge (2 miles south) and Plaitford Green (2 miles north). Larger places within reach include Winchester (14 miles north-east), Eastleigh (11 miles east), Totton (5 miles south-east), Chandler's Ford (9 miles east), Hedge End (13 miles east) and Lymington (14 miles south).

What’s near Canada

Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to Rockingham Arms and the streets around them. The closest station to Canada is Romsey station, about 4.6 miles north-east. Nearby you’ll also find Tatchbury Mount Hospital (3.5 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Copythorne Common.

FAQs for Canada

Is Canada within the area you cover?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Canada is covered. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Which fire authority looks after Canada?

That’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

What is a WFTT or DTT grease test?

Grease thickness testing measures the layer of grease on the duct surfaces, using the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or Deposit Thickness Test (DTT). Each reading is recorded in microns.

How much does TR19 inspection cost in Canada?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Call for a fixed quote, normally ready within one working day.

What do you do to protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

What about areas you can’t get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

What do the grease readings need to be?

TR19® Grease says grease should not go over a mean of 200 microns between cleans. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning.

Why survey before a clean?

The survey covers the whole system, grease readings and access to each section. From it, we plan the clean and quote a fixed price.

Between visits

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Look out for grease drips round the canopy edge
  • Tell us if menus or opening hours change
  • Keep to the recommended interval
  • Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request

Any access problems we found are listed with a suggested fix. With panels fitted, the next clean can cover every section.

Keep certificates, reports and readings in one place so the history is easy to show.

What the work involves, part by part

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

BESA’s minimum for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day is a clean every 3 months, with testing showing whether more is needed.

Vertical risers

Risers can be hard to get into. The survey shows exactly what access there is.

What happens on the day

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. The timing of a visit to Canada is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
  2. The system is checked from canopy to discharge.
  3. We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
  4. Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
  5. You get a report with readings, photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet
  • The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
  • Ductwork that was designed or installed badly

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
