TR19 inspection in East Wellow, done properly
A grease test measures how thick the grease is inside a kitchen extract system. We use the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or the Deposit Thickness Test (DTT), taking readings at set points. The results show whether the system needs cleaning and how soon. If you have an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit and missing TR19 certificates or history, we can help.
Work in a small place like East Wellow starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Why deal with it now?
A pre-clean survey avoids surprises on the night. Missing access panels, hidden duct runs and awkward fans are found before the cleaners arrive, and the quote reflects the real job. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Grease, kitchens and East Wellow
According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 3 pubs and bars within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of East Wellow. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. The fire and rescue service for East Wellow is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Environmental health officers from Test Valley council inspect food businesses in East Wellow. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Tatchbury Mount Hospital is the nearest hospital to East Wellow, about 3 miles south-east. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Wellow School or anywhere near East Wellow, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
East Wellow is about 4 miles south-west of Romsey, in Hampshire. East Wellow gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where necessary and a written report with pictures. East Wellow is one of 683 towns, villages and districts in Hampshire we cover for commercial clients. You can also see our page for Southampton, about 8 miles away.
Every address in SO51 is covered for TR19 inspection, from busy streets to back roads. That includes premises on Fielders Way, Crosfield Close and The Drive and nearby roads. We also work in nearby towns such as Winchester (13 miles north-east), Eastleigh (10 miles east), Totton (4 miles south-east), Chandler's Ford (8 miles east), Hedge End (12 miles east) and Lymington (15 miles south).
Around East Wellow
Around East Wellow, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near Embley, among other places. The nearest railway station is Romsey station, about 3.6 miles north-east. For landlords and multi-site operators
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
Honest limits
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what TR19 inspection will not do:
- Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet
- The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person
- Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think.

- Access surveys

The process
The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system, and we clear up before we go. In a small place like East Wellow, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- We open the access points used on the clean.
- Grease readings are taken again at set points.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
Get a fixed quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Advice
Looking after it afterwards
Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Share inspection reports with your insurer or broker when asked
- Keep access panels clear and unpainted
- Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test
- Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs
If any reading is 500 microns or more, the report flags it for immediate spot cleaning, and we can arrange it.
Fit access panels where the survey finds sections can’t be reached, so every part of the duct can be cleaned.
Signs you need TR19 inspection in East Wellow
Grease is fuel. Flames from the range can be pulled into the canopy and travel through the ducts to other parts of the building. Measuring it is the first step to keeping it under control.
Look out for these warning signs:
- Checking the result of a recent clean
- Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
- Insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning
- Sections of duct that cannot be reached
Historic houses near East Wellow, such as Landford Manor about 2.8 miles west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.

- Whether VAT is included
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The number of sites or systems
- What state the system is in
A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before any work starts.
Helping us quote
You don’t need the technical terms. Just send:
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Any previous report or certificate
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before we start.
Questions from East Wellow
Can you get to a site in East Wellow?
Yes. East Wellow is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Can you clean school kitchen extracts in East Wellow during the holidays?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. With about 2 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of East Wellow, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Can you quote from pictures?
Yes, for many jobs. Send a few wide photos plus close-ups of panels, filters or grilles, and a fixed quote typically follows within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we’ll say so.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. We always survey first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where needed. A fixed quote follows.
Which accreditations do you hold?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. It’s the benchmark rather than the law. Without TR19 records, an insurance claim can be reduced or refused, so following it is the sensible course.
What does a pre-clean survey involve?
We look at the system from canopy to discharge, take grease readings and check access. From it, we plan the clean and quote a fixed price.
