About our TR19 inspection in Stoke
BESA sets minimum cleaning intervals by daily use: heavy use (12 to 16 hours a day) every 3 months, moderate use (6 to 12 hours) every 6 months and light use (2 to 6 hours) every 12 months. Grease testing shows whether your kitchen needs cleaning more often than that. If you have ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits and kitchens taken over with no cleaning records, we can help, from access surveys, wet film thickness tests and deposit thickness tests onwards.
Work in a small place like Stoke starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Stoke questions
Which fire service covers Stoke?
Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Stoke. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Do you work at weekends in Stoke?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. The work in Stoke can fit around your hours. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.
How far ahead should we book?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
Is a quote from photos possible?
Yes, for many jobs. Send wide shots, close-ups of any access panels and anything that worries you, and we typically come back within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we’ll say so.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. For many sites, pictures and a few details are enough, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.
What do the grease readings need to be?
TR19® Grease says the mean shouldn’t exceed 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere at 500 microns or more needs spot cleaning straight away.
Common problems we fix in Stoke
Looking at a canopy tells you little about what’s in the duct. A system can look clean at the filters and be heavily coated further in, so readings are the reliable guide.
Look out for any of the following:
- Missing access panels found on survey
- Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits
- Missing TR19 certificates or history
- Extracts that have never been grease tested
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Peter and St Paul, or anywhere in Stoke, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
What your quote should include
- Whether a written report and photos are included
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
- What hours they’ll be on site
- Whether VAT is included
Honest limits
In fairness, some problems need a different fix:
- Fire safety duties beyond the extract system
- Hidden runs that need access panels first
- Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
If you are not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
Parts of the system we cover

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
How the visit works
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems, and we clear up before we go. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Stoke, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
- We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
- Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
- The findings go into a report with readings, photos and a recommended next clean.
How to prepare
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Get a fixed quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- How many systems or sites are involved
- The size of the system
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
You will not find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we’ll talk you through it.
Asking for a quote
A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:
- Any previous report or certificate
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before work begins.
Kitchen extracts in Stoke
The coast is only about 1 mile from Stoke. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. Food Standards Agency data counts about 4 restaurants, cafés and canteens in Stoke and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Kitchens like these cook for very different hours, and grease testing shows which extracts need cleaning soonest. Environmental health officers from Medway council inspect food businesses in Stoke. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
School kitchens, at schools like Stoke Primary Academy for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Medway Maritime Hospital is the nearest hospital to Stoke, about 5.7 miles south-west.

Part by part
Restaurants, pubs and hotels
Kitchens that cook for long hours build up grease faster. Readings show if the cleans are frequent enough.
Extract fan and discharge
The extract fan and its housing collect grease too. They’re included in the readings and pictures.
