Kitchen extract cleaning in RG21: how it works

Has the extract gone a while without a clean, or has the paperwork gone missing? Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with pictures of the canopy and filters, and you’ll have a fixed quote for kitchen extract cleaning in RG21, typically within one working day. We’re often asked to deal with grease smells coming from the extract and years of baked-on grease in the ducts, across plenums and filters, extract fans and discharge points.

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by photos or a visit.
  2. We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
  5. Readings and photos are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.

Landmarks near Oakridge

In Oakridge, that means kitchens and buildings near The Costello School, Oakridge Junior School and Eastrop Park. Also close by are The Vyne Community School (under half a mile north), The Rising Sun pub (under half a mile south-west) and Ruins Of Chapel Of The Holy Trinity (within half a mile south). There’s a railway station in Oakridge itself: Basingstoke station. A little further out are Basing House (1.6 miles east) and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (1.1 miles north-west). Not far away are Farleigh Hill and Daneshill Park Woods.

Kitchen extract cleaning around RG21

In RG21, we work in places such as Basingstoke, Popley and Oakridge and well beyond. We cover every place we list for RG21, 7 in all, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.

From central London kitchens to coastal hotels and country pubs, London and the South East have every kind of site. The same TR19® standard applies to all of them, in RG21 and beyond.

Oakridge: If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Ruins Of Chapel Of The Holy Trinity or elsewhere in Oakridge, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital about 1.1 miles north-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

What staff can safely do

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

When something else is needed

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Extraction that can’t cope with the cooking because of its design
  • Faulty fire dampers in the duct
  • A duct that’s holed or coming apart

Managing agents and facilities teams in RG21

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

What affects the quote in RG21

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Any permits to work or inductions

Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

What we need to know

When you contact us, it’s useful to have:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you’ll normally have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Between visits

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
  • Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking

Every clean ends with a photo report. It shows the system before and after, part by part, and lists what was cleaned, any areas we couldn’t reach and the date the next clean is due.

Book the next clean before the last one runs out. BESA guidance links the minimum interval to daily cooking hours, so a change in hours may mean a change in interval, and grease readings will show it.

Questions from RG21

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

A TR19 certificate, plus a full photo report. The report lists what was cleaned, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next clean is due.

How long does it take to clean a kitchen extract system?

It takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time. We’ll confirm the time when we quote.

How much notice should we give?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

What’s TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

What does kitchen extract cleaning cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. We fix the price before any work starts.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it, and the quote is based on that.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

TR19 isn’t written into law, but the Fire Safety Order 2005 does require the responsible person to manage fire risk. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19 as the standard, and many policies require it.
