How kitchen extract cleaning works in RG26
The canopy over the range is only the start of a kitchen extract system. Beyond the filters run the plenum, the ducts and risers, the fan and the point where air leaves the building, and grease settles in every one of them. A TR19® Grease clean deals with the whole route, not only the parts on show. The work covers canopies and hoods, extract fans and discharge points, and people most often call us about rancid smells from grease in the duct and a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction.
Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time.
- You send pictures or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
- We take grease readings at set points and give you a fixed quote.
- On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
- Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
- We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.
Pricing in RG26
The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Kitchen extract cleaning across RG26: local notes
Our kitchen extract cleaning work across RG26 takes in places such as Tadley, Rooksdown and Bramley and the villages in between. Every place on our RG26 list (23 in all) is covered, with cleans booked around trading hours.
RG26 is within the area we cover, which takes in London and the South East. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed quote.
Tadley: Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Tadley is Park Prewett Hospital, about 5.2 miles south. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Bishopswood Junior School or anywhere near Tadley, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
When something else is needed
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Ductwork that’s corroded, split or leaking (that is for a ductwork contractor)
- A broken extract fan that won’t run
- A canopy that is too small or a system that was badly designed
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
What affects the quote in RG26
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- The condition of the system
- A single visit or a regular plan
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- How easy every part is to reach
Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.
Asking for a quote
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:
- The site address and the type of premises
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
For landlords and multi-site operators
From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
What happens if it’s left?
Grease that is left only gets thicker. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. The longer it’s left, the bigger the job becomes.
What your quote should include
- How VAT is shown on the quote
- How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
- Whether they recommend a next date
- What records you will receive afterwards
Questions from RG26
What types of premises do you cover?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
Are you a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member?
We clean to BESA TR19® Grease as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, with certificates issued through the BESCA portal. Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009.
How often should a kitchen extract be cleaned?
BESA guidance gives minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on daily cooking hours. Heavy frying and grilling can mean shorter intervals, which grease thickness testing will show.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.
Do we have to close the kitchen for the clean?
Out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. We need the equipment cool, and we leave the kitchen ready to cook.
Will I get a certificate after the clean?
You receive a TR19 certificate and a photo report. Certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, and the report includes before and after pictures, grease readings and the recommended next clean date.
How much notice should we give?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
