Extract fan cleaning in Tide Mills from ventilation hygiene specialists trading since 2009. Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus a 24/7 emergency line.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
About our extract fan cleaning in Tide Mills
Think of the fan as the system’s heart and the grease as a clot. A heart under strain works harder for less. We clean it, run it and note anything that needs a closer look, before signing it off. If you have an extract fan with no cleaning record and rough running from the extract fan, we can help, from discharge points, axial fans and roof-mounted fans onwards.
In a small place like Tide Mills, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
We’ve been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

FAQs for Tide Mills
Which council inspects kitchens in Tide Mills?
In Tide Mills, it’s Lewes council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Will you come out to Tide Mills?
Yes. Tide Mills is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
How often does the fan need cleaning?
At least as often as the rest of the extract, which BESA guidance sets by daily cooking hours: every 3, 6 or 12 months. A noisy or heavily coated fan may need it sooner.
Can the fan be cleaned between full cleans?
Yes, we do. We record it as a fan-only clean, so your TR19 records stay accurate. The full system still needs its regular TR19 clean.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.
What do you need from me for a quote?
The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus pictures of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
What paperwork do I get after a fan clean?
A photo report, including the fan’s condition and the next clean date. File it with your other extract records.
Do you repair extract fans as well as clean them?
Anything beyond cleaning is flagged, with what we found. We can repair or replace it, and there’s a 24/7 emergency callout for breakdowns.
Keeping the system healthy
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:
- Keep the grease filters clean and in place
- Flag smoke lingering at the canopy
- Don’t turn the fan off mid-service
- Keep records of every fan clean
Where the fan needs repair rather than cleaning, the report says so. We also repair and replace extract fans, so you have one point of contact.
Run the fan throughout cooking. Grease settles faster when the air stops moving, so keeping it running helps keep it clean.
What a clean won’t put right
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Damaged fan blades
- Grease in the duct and canopy before the fan (those need a full TR19 clean)
- A fan that will not start
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think.
Parts of the system we cover
- Fan housings
- Axial fans
- Centrifugal fans
- In-line fans
- Discharge points
- Roof-mounted fans
Leave it or put it right?
Without a working extract fan, a kitchen can’t cook safely. Grease is often where fan trouble begins, so keeping it clean is part of keeping it running. If it does fail, our 24/7 emergency line is there. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.

What happens on the day
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before we start, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Tide Mills and turn up when the site is quiet.
- We find the fan and check how it’s reached and how it’s isolated.
- Power to the fan is isolated before anyone touches it.
- The impeller and the housing around it are scraped clean.
- We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
- It’s closed up, run and checked, and photos go into your report.
Getting ready for the visit
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
How to get a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Advice
Grease, kitchens and Tide Mills
At about 1 mile from the coast, Tide Mills is close enough for sea air to matter. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. Food Standards Agency records list about 25 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 8 takeaways in Tide Mills and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Grease builds up on fan blades and housings in kitchens like these, unbalancing the impeller. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service covers Tide Mills. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Chailey Heritage Marine Hospital (about less than half a mile south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you cook for passing trade around Bishopstone (Sussex) station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer. For schools such as UTC@Harbourside, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
Tide Mills is about 1 mile south-east of Newhaven, in East Sussex. Across the BN25 area, we cover extract fan cleaning for commercial sites. Our East Sussex coverage runs to 289 places, Tide Mills among them. Brighton is in our area too, about 9 miles from Tide Mills.

What affects the quote in Tide Mills
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:
- The size of the system
- Parking and loading at the site
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The condition of the system
No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.
What to send for a quote
You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:
- A few general shots of the system
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Any previous report or certificate
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before work begins.
How the job changes from site to site
Fan housings and motors
Belt-driven fans have a drive belt and pulleys that can collect grease. Belts and pulleys are checked and cleaned where safe for your records.
Impellers and blades
The blades of the impeller do the work, and it collects grease unevenly. An uneven coating throws it off balance, so it’s cleaned carefully blade by blade.
