Kitchen duct cleaning in St Mary's

Few kitchens can stop cooking for a day so the extract can be cleaned. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, or between services where the kitchen has a gap. With the equipment off and cool and the area sheeted, we clean and hand the kitchen back ready for the next service. The work covers discharge points, canopies and hoods and plenums and filters, and common reasons people get in touch are years of baked-on grease in the ducts and proof of cleaning requested by an insurer. When a restaurant in St Mary's asks for duct cleaning, it’s nearly always the kitchen extract they mean, and that is our main job: canopy to fan, to TR19® Grease.

Kitchens that fry and grill hardest need the most frequent cleans, so we look at the menu as well as the opening hours when we suggest the next date.

For a smaller kitchen near St Mary's, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

What we’re called out for in St Mary's

A kitchen in St Mary's builds up grease in the same places as any other: long horizontal runs, bends, the base of risers and around the fan. Cooler sections of duct collect the most.

Common reasons sites call us include:

  • Grease drips onto cooking equipment
  • A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
  • An extract that no longer clears the smoke
  • A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history

Commuter trade near Southampton Central station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands.

  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether a written report and pictures are included

Common questions in St Mary's

Does the sea air around St Mary's make a difference to kitchen extract cleaning?

It can. Being within about 1 mile of the sea means more corrosion on metalwork in St Mary's than inland. A fan housing that is rusting near the coast can fail sooner, so it’s worth catching early.

Do you work in villages like St Mary's?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, St Mary's included. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need and the fixed quote is built on it.

How do you protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

How far ahead should we book?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Wash or exchange the filters often
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit
  • Give the canopy a daily wipe
  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell

A TR19 certificate notes the date, the location and the technician. Keep it in the maintenance log with your fire risk assessment so it’s ready when anyone asks to see it.

Wipe the canopy down regularly and empty grease troughs or collection points. A daily wipe is not a deep clean, but it helps between visits.

When it’s something else

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains
  • A duct that is holed or coming apart

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Canopies and hoods
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Plenums and filters
  • Vertical risers
  • Extract fans
  • Discharge points

What we do, step by step

Your staff do not need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. In a smaller place like St Mary's, parking is rarely the issue, but tell us about gates, roof access and opening hours.

  1. We survey the system, from your photos or on site, canopy to discharge.
  2. We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
  5. We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

Ask for a quote

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Different parts, different methods

Canopy and plenum

Whether it’s one hood or a long island canopy, each section is cleaned and photographed before and after.

Ductwork and risers

Risers take the extract up through floors to roof level, and grease runs down their walls and pools at the base. They’re cleaned through access points along their height.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • The size of the system
  • The number of sites or systems

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

What to send for a quote

When you contact us, these details help:

  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

Kitchen extract cleaning around St Mary's

Sea air reaches St Mary's, which sits within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 309 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 109 takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of St Mary's. Each one that cooks under a canopy has an extract system that collects grease and needs regular cleaning. Kitchens in St Mary's get their food hygiene inspections from Southampton council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Mary's Church or elsewhere in St Mary's, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. For schools such as Hope Community School Southampton, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
