Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Heathrow

Kitchen extract cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Heathrow

Cooking sends fat-laden vapour into the canopy with every service. It cools inside the duct and settles as a sticky film that thickens month by month. That layer will burn, and cleaning the whole system is how you keep it under control. If you have rancid smells from grease in the duct and proof of cleaning requested by an insurer, we can help. If you need a kitchen extract clean in Heathrow, you get one team and one number for every site, wherever you are in Surrey.

Each job starts with a look at where grease has built up: grease readings at set points tell us where the heaviest deposits are, and the same readings after the clean show the result.

In a small place like Heathrow, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Signs you need kitchen extract cleaning in Heathrow

The reason for all this is fire. A flare-up on the range can be drawn up into the canopy and duct, where burning grease can carry a fire along the ducts and into other parts of the building. For a kitchen in Heathrow, keeping that fuel under control is part of the fire risk assessment.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey
  • A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
  • Fat running down the canopy edge
  • Stale cooking odours from the system

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Osterley House is about 4.6 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Proof of insurance
  • How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • When the next visit should be, and why

Heathrow questions

Do you cover smaller places like Heathrow?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Heathrow during the holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 3 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Heathrow. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

What about areas you cannot get to?

They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?

BESA guidance gives minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on daily cooking hours. Heavy frying and grilling can mean shorter intervals, and readings will tell you.

Is a quote from pictures possible?

Yes, where the photos show enough. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels

The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

What we need to know

What to send for a quote:

  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

How the job changes from site to site

Grease filters

Baffle filters are cleaned as part of every TR19 clean, and refitted so they sit properly in the housing. Damaged ones are noted on the report.

Canopy and plenum

The canopy catches the vapour, and the plenum behind the filters is where it first condenses. We clean both inside and out, including the filter housing.

The process

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Somewhere as small as Heathrow, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before any work starts.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

How to get a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Advice

Kitchen extract cleaning in Heathrow: the local picture

There are about 76 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 12 sandwich bars and takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Heathrow, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Wherever food is cooked under a canopy, the extract above it gathers grease and needs cleaning on a schedule. It’s Hillingdon council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Heathrow. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Heathrow is covered by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Harlington about 1.6 miles north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. For schools such as Bedfont Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Heathrow is about 2 miles north-west of Feltham, in Surrey. Heathrow gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Across Surrey, we cover 395 places, and Heathrow is one of them. You can also see our page for London, about 16 miles away.

Here we cover the TW6 postcode area for kitchen extract cleaning. We also cover the places around Heathrow: West Bedfont (1 mile south-west), Hatton (1 mile east), Bedfont (1 mile south-east), Stanwell (1 mile south-west) and Harlington (1 mile north-east). Multi-site and managed buildings

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Looking after it afterwards

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
  • Refit filters properly after cleaning
  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking
  • Keep grease collection points emptied

The report gives a recommended date for the next clean, set from your daily cooking hours and the readings we took. A 3, 6 or 12-monthly maintenance plan keeps it on track, so the date is not missed.

Book the next clean before the last one runs out. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval should be looked at again, and grease readings will show it.
