How we handle kitchen deep cleaning in London
Many kitchens book a deep clean alongside their TR19® extract clean. We clean the extract system and the room it serves, so the whole space is done in one go. It can also be booked on its own, between extract cleans. We’re often asked to deal with a kitchen taken over in poor condition and food debris trapped under the range, across ranges and ovens, fryers and grills and floors and floor drains.
Food businesses in London are inspected by council environmental health officers, and the state of walls, floors, ceilings and equipment is part of the inspection. Records of deep cleans help show the kitchen is kept in order.
We’ve been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Different parts, different methods
Behind and under equipment
Food debris behind equipment can attract pests. Clearing it out is a core part of a deep clean.
Floors
Greasy floors are a slip hazard. Floors are done at the end reaching under and behind equipment wherever it’s safe to move.

FAQs for London
Do you clean school kitchens in London in the summer holidays?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 93 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of London. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.
Which council inspects kitchens in London?
Kitchens in London are inspected by Southwark council’s environmental health officers. Photos from a deep clean are a simple record of what was done and when.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
Should we deep clean before an environmental health visit?
Yes, inspectors look at the whole kitchen. We cannot promise a particular rating, but a deep clean puts the kitchen in good condition.
Which areas does a deep clean cover?
It covers the full kitchen, from ceiling to floor. The exact list is agreed when we quote and it’s all in the fixed quote.
Which sectors do you work in?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
Will I get paperwork for my records?
Yes. It’s your proof that the work was done: a written, dated record with photos of what we did and anything we couldn’t access.
What does TR19 mean?
It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.
Commercial kitchens in London
Food Standards Agency data counts about 2,326 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 809 takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central London. Grease settles behind fryers, under ranges and on high surfaces in kitchens like these. Compact London kitchens collect grease in tight corners, which an overnight deep clean can reach. Environmental health officers from Southwark council inspect food businesses in London. An inspection covers the structure of the kitchen as well as the food. Photos and dates from each deep clean make a useful record.
For schools such as Charles Dickens Primary School, deep cleans and grease trap work are typically booked for the holidays. For busy kitchens close to Elephant & Castle station, deep cleans and grease trap work can be done after closing.

Common problems we fix in London
Cooking releases grease with every service. Some is caught by the extract, but some settles on walls, ceilings and equipment. Over weeks and months, it builds into a sticky layer.
Look out for these warning signs:
- A whole-kitchen clean while the extract is cleaned
- Grease built up on walls and ceilings
- A kitchen getting ready for an environmental health visit
- Build-up behind fryers and ovens
Surrey Dispensary, about less than half a mile south-east, is the nearest hospital to London; healthcare kitchens can’t stop cooking, so deep cleans are worked around meal times.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
- How VAT is shown on the quote
- Exactly which parts of the system are covered
- What hours they’ll be on site
Managing agents and facilities teams in London
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
What happens on the day
Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes anything from a single evening to more than one visit, depending on the kitchen, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. In the busier parts of London, parking and roof access are the main things to plan.
- We look round the kitchen and agree exactly what’s included.
- Cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and the area is prepared.
- High surfaces are cleaned first so dirt doesn’t fall on clean areas.
- Equipment is cleaned inside and out, along with the areas behind and underneath it.
- We finish with the floors and leave the kitchen ready to use.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
How to get a quote
Getting a quote does not take long. Call or email with a few details and you’ll typically have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Advice
What staff can safely do
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.
How we price kitchen deep cleaning
The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:
- The number of sites or systems
- Any permits to work or inductions
- The scale of the work
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.
Asking for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
