About our grease trap cleaning in Waterloo

Think of the grease trap as a filter for the kitchen’s drains. Kept clean, it does its job quietly but left too long, it causes trouble. A regular clean keeps it healthy. We’re often asked to deal with a grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time and a kitchen drain that smells, across kitchen waste pipes, inline grease traps and restaurants and takeaways.

Across London, council environmental health teams inspect food businesses, and walls, floors, ceilings and equipment are all part of the picture. A deep clean ahead of an inspection, or after one, is a common reason kitchens in Waterloo get in touch.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Waterloo: your questions answered

How do you handle parking and loading in Waterloo?

Tell us where a van can stop near your site in Waterloo, and about any building rules on loading. Working overnight, as we often do in London, usually makes it simpler.

Which council inspects kitchens in Waterloo?

Kitchens in Waterloo are inspected by Southwark council’s environmental health officers. Photos from a deep clean are a simple record of what was done and when.

Where does the waste go?

It leaves the site with us when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Every site has its own report.

Do you clean under-sink and inline grease traps?

Both under-sink and inline traps, plus interceptors. A photo helps us see what’s fitted when you call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, and the emergency line covers the rest.

Do you recommend a next date?

Yes. How often depends on use and condition, and we explain the reasoning on the report.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes less than an hour for many under-sink units, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Many London buildings have a managing agent, a security desk or a permit-to-work system, so tell us who to contact in Waterloo.

  1. First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
  2. The sinks feeding the trap are kept out of use while we work.
  3. We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
  4. We clean the chambers, baffles and connections.
  5. The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

Get a fixed quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

What staff can safely do

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.

Part by part

School, care home and staff kitchens

Drains in care settings need to keep flowing. Visits are planned between meals.

Grease interceptors

An interceptor works on the same principle as a smaller trap. Grease floats and solids sink.

When something else is needed

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Grease set hard in the drain run
  • Drains that are cracked or have collapsed
  • A leaking sink waste or trap connection

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think.

What we work on in Waterloo

  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Inline grease traps

How we price grease trap cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • The size of the system
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule

Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What to send for a quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to have:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will usually have a quote within one working day.

Multi-site and managed buildings

For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in Waterloo and across Greater London. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

Keeping the system healthy

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Don’t wait for a blockage to book a clean
  • Hot water only moves grease further down
  • Tell us when sinks start draining slowly
  • Tell us if your menu or hours change

Keep used oil out of the drains and the trap won’t fill as quickly. It’s the single easiest way to help.

A fixed cleaning interval means the trap never gets overfull. The interval is set to suit the trap and the kitchen.

Commercial kitchens in Waterloo

There are about 23 food manufacturers and packers within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Waterloo, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. A production site’s wash-down water can carry plenty of fat, which a trap or interceptor has to catch. Compact London kitchens collect grease in tight corners, which an overnight deep clean can reach. In Waterloo, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Southwark council. Walls, floors, ceilings and equipment are all part of what they look at. A record of each deep clean helps show the kitchen is kept in order.

For a café close to London Waterloo station, a deep clean can be done between closing and the morning rush. For schools such as Oasis Academy Johanna, deep cleans and grease trap work are usually booked for the holidays. Hall kitchens near Christ Church or elsewhere in Waterloo may have older sinks and drains, so a grease trap check is worth adding to a deep clean.
