Grease filter exchange across Woodlands

Grease filter exchange in Woodlands, done properly

A clean set of filters is a simple, regular dose of prevention. It keeps airflow up and grease down between full cleans, and it saves your staff a greasy job. Full TR19 cleaning still comes at the right interval, with a certificate. The work covers wall canopies, school and hospital kitchens and restaurants and pubs, and the jobs we see most are grease left in baffles after washing and filters that leave gaps in the canopy.

For a kitchen in or near Woodlands, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

The report is your system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

What your team can do, and what needs us

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

Common questions in Woodlands

Who is the fire and rescue service for Woodlands?

Woodlands is in the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Woodlands out of term?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. With about 4 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Woodlands, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Send us your term dates when you phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we’ll fit the work in.

Does a filter exchange disrupt service?

An exchange does not take long, and can be booked outside service times. There’s no wait between removing and refitting.

Are you insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work and have been trading since 2009.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

Do you work in Woodlands?

Yes. We work in Woodlands and the rest of Hampshire, within our South East and London area. To book, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Do you recommend a next date?

Yes. We put a recommended next date on the report. For kitchen extracts, BESA’s minimum intervals run from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use, and fire dampers need testing at least once a year.

Can you clean our existing filters instead?

We can. Cleaning your existing filters is an option while others want an exchange. Either way, the canopy is not left without filters during service.

When to call us in Woodlands

Cooking vapour carries grease into the canopy. The filters catch much of it, and day by day they load up until the air can barely get through.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • A canopy running with filters missing
  • Grease left in baffles after washing
  • Filters so greasy the air can barely pass
  • Weak extraction at the canopy

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Ashurst Hospital about 0.9 miles south-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

What to look for in a quote

  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Whether VAT is included
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor

Questions to ask before you book

Kitchen extracts in Woodlands

Food Standards Agency data counts about 3 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 3 takeaways across Woodlands and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Swapping filters on a schedule keeps kitchens like these drawing air properly. The fire and rescue service for Woodlands is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. In Woodlands, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from New Forest council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Netley Marsh Church of England Infant School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. For kitchens close to Ashurst New Forest station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.

What we do, step by step

We’re used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. Somewhere as small as Woodlands, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. First, we record the size, type and number of filters in each canopy.
  2. A change schedule is agreed to match the kitchen’s cooking hours.
  3. At every visit, the greasy filters are lifted out.
  4. Clean filters go straight back in, seated properly with no gaps.
  5. If a filter is damaged or the plenum needs attention, we tell you.

Before we arrive

Advice

Honest limits

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which need odour control
  • An extract that was undersized from the start
  • Grease behind the filters that a swap cannot remove

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Baffle filters
  • Mesh filters
  • Island canopies
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Wall canopies

Aftercare tips

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Look out for drips from the canopy
  • Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day
  • Make sure no filter is left out
  • Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning

If the plenum behind the filters looks greasy, we say so. That might mean bringing a TR19® clean forward and we can book that in.

If filters are already dripping, they’re overdue. Changing them now reduces the fuel above the cooking, and it’s worth checking the plenum too.

What the work involves, part by part

Mesh filters

Mesh filters use layers of metal mesh to trap grease. They clog quickly in a busy kitchen, so they need changing often.

Canopy filter housings

The filter housing holds each filter at an angle in the canopy. A damaged housing leaves gaps.

What happens if it’s left?

Some kitchens in Woodlands wash filters themselves to save the cost of a service, and it works when it’s done well and never skipped. Where it slips, an exchange service takes the job off staff. In a place like Woodlands, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
