Grease filter exchange in Minster

Grease filter exchange in Minster

We run grease filter exchange for all kinds of kitchens in Minster, whether there’s one canopy or many. We can come before or after service, so cooking is not interrupted. The work covers mesh filters, restaurants and pubs and wall canopies, and the jobs we see most are damaged filters letting grease past and a greasy plenum behind the filters.

Somewhere as small as Minster, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

What the work involves, part by part

Mesh filters

Mesh filters use layers of metal mesh to trap grease. They clog quickly in a busy kitchen, so they need changing often.

Baffle filters

In a baffle filter, the air zigzags through metal baffles. Grease drops out as it does.

Looking after it afterwards

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Keep every filter in place during service
  • Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day
  • Keep filter exchange and TR19 cleaning on the same plan
  • Don’t refit a filter that is bent

There’s no waiting: the canopy is ready as soon as the clean set is fitted. We take the greasy filters with us to be cleaned.

Clean filters plus regular full cleans keep the system in good health. A maintenance plan that covers both keeps everything on track.

How it works

Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes less than an hour in most kitchens. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in Minster knowing what to expect.

  1. First, we check the canopies and the filters in them.
  2. Any damaged or missing filters are noted.
  3. We exchange the dirty filters for a clean set.
  4. The filters are checked for fit before we go.
  5. Anything that needs attention, such as a greasy plenum, is pointed out.

How to prepare

  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

Advice

Minster: your questions answered

Can you get to a site in Minster?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Which council inspects kitchens in Minster?

Kitchens in Minster are inspected by Thanet council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Can we skip TR19 cleans if the filters are changed regularly?

No. Filter exchange works between full cleans, not instead of them. TR19® cleaning covers the canopy, plenum, ductwork and fan and comes with a certificate and photo report.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

Do you recommend a next date?

Yes. We put a recommended next date on the report. For kitchen extracts, BESA’s minimum intervals run from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use, while fire dampers are tested at least annually.

How far ahead should we book?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Will we have to stop cooking for a filter change?

Most changes take anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters, so the impact is small. We plan visits outside your busiest times wherever we can.

What should go in our maintenance log?

Visit reports, certificates and your in-house cleaning logs. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs may all ask to see them, so keep them together and easy to find.

When something else is needed

Grease filter exchange can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • A noisy or failed extract fan
  • A canopy too small for the cooking beneath it
  • Grease behind the filters that a swap can’t remove

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What the work covers

  • Mesh filters
  • Baffle filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Island canopies

How we price grease filter exchange

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • The times the site is available
  • The condition of the system
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • How big the system is

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

Helping us quote

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • A few general shots of the system
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

To get a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll typically have a quote within one working day.

Grease filter exchange in Minster: the local picture

Minster is within about 3 miles of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. Food Standards Agency records list about 12 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 4 takeaways and sandwich shops within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Minster. Where they cook under a canopy, the grease filters are the first line of defence and clog quickly. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Minster. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

If you cook for passing trade around Minster station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer. School kitchens, at schools like Minster Church of England Primary School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of Saint Mary the Virgin or elsewhere in Minster, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
