- Filters that come out of the sink still dirty
- Smoke and heat lingering under the hood
- Staff short of time to wash filters
Grease filter exchange in Hound
Cleaning filters by hand takes staff time and is easy to put off. With a filter exchange, we bring a clean set and take the dirty one away and the canopy is refilled straight away. If you have blocked baffle filters and grease collecting in the filter channels, we can help, from school and hospital kitchens, baffle filters and mesh filters onwards.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.
Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
What affects the cost of grease filter exchange
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- What state the system is in
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Any permits to work or inductions
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.
What we need to know
What to send for a quote:
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Any previous report or certificate
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

FAQs for Hound
Can sea air affect grease filter exchange in Hound?
It can. Hound is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. A fan housing that is rusting near the coast can fail sooner, so it’s worth catching early.
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Hound?
That is Eastleigh council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Hound. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.
How much notice do you need?
For planned work, earlier is better, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.
Will I get paperwork for my records?
Yes. You get a written report with pictures after each visit, showing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, there’s also a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
How long does grease filter exchange take?
That depends on how much there is to do, but for many sites it takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. We’ll confirm it with the quote.
Do you recommend a next date?
Yes. The report recommends when the next visit should be, based on what we found and how the system is used.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.
What happens if it’s left?
Filters full of grease are fuel sitting right above the cooking. A flare-up on the range can reach them, and from there into the duct. Clean filters mean less fuel in the canopy. Somewhere as small as Hound, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.
What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What the work involves, part by part
The plenum
With good filters, less grease ends up in the plenum, but it still needs cleaning as part of TR19.
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens
The more a kitchen cooks, the more grease the filters see. Changing them on time protects the ducts behind.
Honest limits
Grease filter exchange cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:
- Grease behind the filters that a swap can’t remove
- Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach
- An extract that was undersized from the start
If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think before booking.

The process
Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Hound run smoothly.
- The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
- An exchange schedule is agreed to suit your cooking.
- The dirty set is lifted out.
- A clean set is fitted and checked for gaps.
- We take the greasy set away and confirm the next date.
How to prepare
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

Grease, kitchens and Hound
Hound lies within about 1 mile of the sea. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. Food Standards Agency records list about 34 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 14 takeaways in and around Hound, up to about a mile and a half out. Any of those kitchens with a canopy relies on its filters to catch grease before it reaches the duct. Food hygiene inspections in Hound are the job of Eastleigh council’s environmental health team. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
Term dates shape school work: for a school like The Hamble School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Hound, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Common problems we fix in Hound
Every fry, grill and sauté sends grease-laden vapour upwards. The filters catch much of it, and day by day they load up until the air can barely get through.
Clients normally contact us when they notice one of these:
- Filter washing that keeps being missed
- Grease left in baffles after washing
- Damaged filters letting grease past
- A greasy plenum behind the filters
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Coldeast about 2.4 miles east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.
