Canopy cleaning near Hound

When to call us in Hound

A canopy in Hound picks up grease at much the same rate as one anywhere else with the same cooking: it comes down to how long the kitchen cooks and what’s on the menu. High-heat cooking coats it fastest.

Keep an eye out for these warning signs:

  • Wet, greasy drips from the hood
  • Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
  • A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
  • Overflowing grease troughs and gutters

If you run a café or takeaway near Netley station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.

What your quote should include

  • How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
  • Whether the price is fixed
  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed

Canopy cleaning in Hound, done properly

Canopy cleans are done out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. The equipment underneath is switched off, left to cool and sheeted so the kitchen is ready when we go. If you have an EHO comment about the canopy and condensation running down the canopy, we can help.

For a kitchen in or near Hound, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Keeping the system healthy

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Check all filters are fitted before service
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
  • Make sure filters sit tight in the housing

The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Every filter is refitted and checked ready for the next service.

Don’t let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Overflowing troughs are the usual cause of drips onto the range, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

What canopy cleaning can’t fix

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • Bent or broken filters
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • A light fitting that doesn’t work

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think.

  • Grease gutters
  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Wall canopies
  • Plenum chambers
  • Island canopies

FAQs for Hound

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Hound?

Food hygiene inspections in Hound are carried out by Eastleigh council. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Hound in the summer holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. There are about 10 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Hound. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

What happens to the waste?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go, so it does not spread.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

Do we need to close the kitchen for a canopy clean?

The clean is done out of hours: after service, overnight or before opening. The range must be switched off and cooled first.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

Do you clean inside the canopy as well as outside?

We clean the canopy inside and out, along with its seams and grease channels. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned as well.

Are you accredited?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Multi-site and managed buildings

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

How we price canopy cleaning

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • The number of sites or systems
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What we need to know

When you call or email, it’s useful to have:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Problems your staff have spotted

We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

The process

Each visit runs to the same pattern: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the canopy cleaning, clear away and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes a few hours for most canopies. The timing of a visit to Hound is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Let us know about parking and loading

Ask for a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Grease, kitchens and Hound

The coast is only about 1 mile from Hound. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. There are about 34 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 14 sandwich bars and takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Hound, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. The fire and rescue service for Hound is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Mary or anywhere around Hound, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. For schools such as The Hamble School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
