Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Hound
Fats, oils and grease are the main cause of blocked kitchen drains. Down the line, they can add to fatbergs in the sewer. A well-maintained trap holds them back. Common call-outs are for foul odours from the grease trap and drains clogged with fat, on under-sink grease traps, kitchen waste pipes and restaurants and takeaways.
In rural areas, a kitchen may drain to a private system rather than a public sewer, so keeping fat out with a working grease trap matters even more.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

Hound kitchens: local notes
Food Standards Agency records include about 19 bars, pubs and nightclubs in Hound and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Any of them serving food has a kitchen that collects grease out of sight and drains that need protecting. In Hound, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Eastleigh council. They look at the cleanliness of the whole kitchen: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment. Keeping a record of deep cleans and grease trap visits helps at inspection time.
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Coldeast about 2.4 miles east, deep cleans and grease trap visits are planned so meals still go out. If you look after a hall kitchen near Church of St Mary or anywhere in Hound, a deep clean between busy seasons is easier than a scramble before a big event. If you run a café or takeaway near Netley station, a deep clean overnight means the kitchen opens as normal next morning.
Hound is about 3 miles east of Hythe, in Hampshire. Hound gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. 683 places in Hampshire are on our list, large and small.

How we price grease trap cleaning
There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- The size of the system
- How many systems or sites are involved
Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before we start.
Asking for a quote
Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Problems your staff have spotted
- The postcode and the type of business
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
Need a price for grease trap cleaning? Please call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with a few details about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before anything is booked.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
What happens if it’s left?
In Hound, as anywhere, grease trap cleaning is a short, routine visit. Waiting for a blockage turns it into an urgent problem and typically at the worst moment. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to Hound is calmer for everyone.
You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

Keeping the system healthy
After the visit, a few habits help the work last:
- Tell us when sinks start draining slowly
- Keep the grease trap on a regular cleaning schedule
- Let us know if the kitchen gets busier
- Keep strainers in every sink
Collect waste cooking oil separately rather than pouring it down the sink and the trap won’t fill as quickly. It’s the single easiest way to help.
Grease that gets past the trap sets in the drains. Once it’s there, it needs a drainage contractor to clear, so it’s far better to keep the trap clean.
Hound: your questions answered
Can a school kitchen in Hound be done out of term time?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 10 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Hound. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Which environmental health team covers Hound?
The local authority for Hound is Eastleigh council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. An officer may look behind equipment and at drains, so it pays to have the deep clean booked before those areas build up.
What should go in our maintenance log?
Anything that proves the system is maintained: reports, certificates, pictures and your own cleaning or check logs. A single log for each site works best.
How regularly does a grease trap need emptying?
It depends on the size of the trap and how busy the kitchen is. Small under-sink units fill faster than larger traps, and busy kitchens fill them faster still. We’ll suggest an interval after the first clean.
How much notice do you need?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
What accreditations do you have?
We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.
Do I get a report after the visit?
Yes. It’s your proof that the work was done: a written, dated record with photos of what we did and anything we couldn’t access.
How do you protect the area?
We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
What happens on the day
Every visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, make the system safe, do the work, tidy up and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. Visits to a village like Hound are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.
- We start by finding the trap and checking its inlet and outlet.
- We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
- The trap is emptied of grease and food waste.
- We clean the chambers, baffles and connections.
- The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
Ask for a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
