The Haven fire damper testing
Looking for fire damper testing in The Haven? We diagnose first, fix the price and book the work around your hours, finishing with a written report and photos.
- Fire dampers that haven’t been tested for over a year
- Dampers affected by leaks or condensation
- Dampers that can’t be reached without an access panel
How we handle fire damper testing in The Haven
Smoke dampers work differently from fire dampers. A smoke damper is driven by a motor and responds to signals from its controls, so we test them by operating them through those controls and checking that each blade moves fully and returns. The work covers riser dampers, wall and floor dampers and fusible link fire dampers, and people most often call us about dampers overdue for their annual drop test and buildings with no damper register.
For a building in or near The Haven, the visit is planned ahead, with access agreed in advance, and the test itself is the same as in any city building.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

How we price fire damper testing
There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:
- The scale of the work
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- The condition we find in the survey
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.
Asking for a quote
To help us quote quickly, send us:
- Any previous report or certificate
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- The site address and the type of premises
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before work begins.
Honest limits
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- Control wiring problems outside the damper itself
- Gaps in the wall or floor around the damper
- Sign-off of the whole building’s fire safety
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly.
Where we work
- Motorised smoke dampers
- Hospitals and care homes
- Offices and schools
- Riser dampers
- Wall and floor dampers
- Fusible link fire dampers
How it works
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, the work takes anything from a couple of hours for a handful of dampers to a full day for a large building. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to The Haven and turn up when the site is quiet.
- We start with whatever records exist: registers, drawings or old reports.
- Each damper is located and reached through its access panel.
- Fire dampers are drop tested and smoke dampers are run through their controls.
- Dampers that close fully are reset and left open.
- You get a report listing each damper, its result and any remedials needed.
Before we arrive
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Let us know about parking and loading
How to get a quote
Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you’ll usually have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

The Haven questions
Can you work in The Haven outside opening hours?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. Your customers, staff or residents in The Haven needn’t be disturbed. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for The Haven?
Fire safety enforcement in The Haven is handled by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Failed dampers on a report should be followed by a record of the repair, so the file shows the problem was closed out.
What happens to the waste?
We take it away when we go. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.
Is The Haven in your area?
Yes. The Haven is part of the area we cover, as part of our area across London and the South East.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line, and we’ll advise on what to do next.
How do you protect the area?
We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.
Do we need to close while you work?
Typically not. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Bigger sites can be done in stages to keep things running.

Faults found early are often simpler to put right. Left for years, corrosion and build-up can turn it into a full damper replacement. In a place like The Haven, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.
We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so each one has its own record.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
Looking after it afterwards
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:
- Keep ceiling hatches and duct panels easy to open
- Never wedge or tie a damper open
- Keep damper test reports with the fire safety log
- Close off damper faults promptly
Make sure trades working in ceilings and risers know where the dampers sit, and that they mustn’t tie, wedge or obstruct them. Anything they disturb should be checked again.
Deal with leaks and condensation near dampers quickly. Corrosion is a common reason blades stick.
