Fire Damper Testing in Southrope
Fire damper testing across Southrope and nearby, timed so the site keeps working and signed off in writing with photos.
- Dampers that cannot be reached without an access panel
- Corroded dampers in damp risers and plant rooms
- Fire dampers that haven’t been tested for over a year
How the visit works
Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. On site, the work takes a morning or an afternoon for a small number of dampers, longer where there are many. Visits to a village like Southrope are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.
- First we check the schedule and the last set of results.
- Each damper is found and checked for access.
- Fire dampers are drop tested, and smoke dampers are tested through their controls.
- Dampers that pass are reset, and failures are logged with what we found.
- The report sets out the results, and we can quote to repair or replace failed dampers.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Fire damper testing in Southrope, done properly
Some dampers haven’t been tested since the day they went in. Ceilings have gone up, access panels have been covered or lost, and the records have gone missing. We find what we can, test what we can reach and list anything we cannot get to, so you can see exactly what still needs access. Common call-outs are for missing or out-of-date damper records and dust or grease build-up on damper blades, on hospitals and care homes, wall and floor dampers and fusible link fire dampers.
In a village or hamlet like Southrope, there may be only a few buildings with fire dampers. Each damper still needs testing at least once a year.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What staff can safely do
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
Why it’s worth doing now in Southrope
A damper that is stuck open gives fire and smoke a route straight through a fire-resisting wall. The rest of the compartment can be built perfectly and still be bypassed by the duct. It’s far better to find that out on a test than in a fire. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:
- Keep ceiling hatches and duct panels easy to open
- Never wedge or tie a damper open
- Add new dampers to the register as they’re fitted
- Tell contractors where dampers are before they start work
Tell other contractors where the dampers are, and ask them not to run cables through or wedge them. Anything they disturb should be checked again.
Keeping to at least annual testing stops small faults turning into failed dampers. Faults caught early are easier to fix.
What affects the quote in Southrope
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- How many systems or sites are involved
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we will talk you through it.
What we need to know
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- The postcode and the type of business
- Problems your staff have spotted
There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
For landlords and multi-site operators
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
Different parts, different methods
Smoke dampers
If a smoke damper won’t operate when signalled, it goes on the report as a failure, along with what we saw.
Fusible link fire dampers
A damaged or painted link can stop a damper doing its job. Each link is looked at as part of the test and note anything that is not right.
Southrope questions
Can you get to a site in Southrope?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Do you work overnight in Southrope?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Just ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your opening times and we will plan around them.
Are you accredited?
We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before we start, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Every site has its own report.
How often does BESA say fire dampers should be tested?
At least once a year, under BESA guidance, plus a test when the damper is first installed. Some sites choose to test more often where the risk is higher.
How much does fire damper testing cost?
It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. For a quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.
Can you fix fire dampers that fail?
The failure goes on the report, along with what caused it, such as a sticking blade, corrosion or a damaged link. We offer remedials to repair or replace it, and it’s tested again once the work is done.
