Extract fan repair in Ridgeway

Extract fan repair for kitchens and businesses in Ridgeway

Everything a kitchen extract does depends on the fan. When it starts to rattle, hum or slow down, the cooking area soon fills with heat and fumes. We find out why and put it right with a repair or a replacement. If you are dealing with a fan running too slowly to clear the kitchen and an overheating extract motor, we can put it right, from kitchen extract fans, belts and pulleys and fan housings onwards.

Somewhere as small as Ridgeway, a kitchen extract fan might serve a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen. When one fails, the cooking stops, and our 24/7 emergency line covers rural addresses too.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

How the job changes from site to site

Impellers and housings

The impeller does the work of moving air through the system. Grease deposits unbalance it and cause vibration.

Motors and bearings

The motor and its bearings work hardest. Hot, greasy air and long days wear them down.

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Keep the grease filters clean and fitted
  • Avoid lowering the speed to quieten a fault
  • Report new noises from the fan early
  • Write down when the fan misbehaves

Grease on the fan typically means grease in the duct as well. We can book a TR19® clean of the whole extract, with a certificate and photo report.

A fan that’s starting to make noise is giving you a warning. Booking a check at this stage keeps it a planned job rather than an emergency during service.

Leave it or put it right?

In kitchens with an interlocked gas supply, no extract can mean no cooking. Even without an interlock, cooking without extraction is not sensible, so a failing fan is worth dealing with early. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

Extract fan repair around Ridgeway

There are about 3 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Ridgeway, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Every one of them that cooks under a canopy depends on its extract fan to keep cooking. Ridgeway, about 53 miles from central London, is within our usual area. A survey and a fixed quote come first, then the visit at a time that suits you. It’s Ashford council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Ridgeway. Food premises are expected to have suitable and sufficient ventilation under food hygiene rules. That’s one more reason not to keep cooking with a broken fan.

If you look after a church or hall kitchen near Church of St Mary, or anywhere in Ridgeway, test the extract fan before a big event rather than on the day. For school kitchens, at schools like Smeeth Community Primary School for example, a planned fan repair in the holidays avoids losing lunches in term time.

Ridgeway questions

Who do I call if an extract fan fails in Ridgeway?

We run a 24/7 emergency line for failed extract fans, and Ridgeway is part of our area. Call 0345 646 2711 and tell us what the fan is doing, or not doing. Details of the make and model help us plan the repair.

Can you work in Ridgeway outside opening hours?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not typically. We need the work area to ourselves while we’re on site, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.

Should the fan be cleaned as well as repaired?

Repairing the fan does not clean the canopy or ducts. If there’s grease on the fan, a full TR19® clean is worth booking, and we can arrange both.

What about areas you cannot get to?

They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. We always survey first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where necessary. A fixed quote follows.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in Ridgeway and across Kent. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

When something else is needed

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • An extract system that was undersized from the start
  • Faults in the building’s electrical supply, which need an electrician
  • Odour complaints that need filtration rather than a fan repair

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Where we work

  • Kitchen extract fans
  • Bearings
  • Roof and wall fans
  • Fan housings
  • Belts and pulleys
  • Fan motors

The process

Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes a few hours on site, depending on the fault and the access to the fan. Somewhere like Ridgeway, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. We take details of the symptoms and book a time that suits the kitchen.
  2. On site, the fan is safely isolated.
  3. We diagnose the fault, checking the controls as well as the fan.
  4. You get a fixed price for putting it right.
  5. The work is done and the fan is tested running.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

How to get a quote

For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll typically have a quote within one working day.

Advice

What your team can do, and what needs us

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
