Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Ridgeway
Fats, oils and grease are the main cause of blocked kitchen drains. Further on, grease can build into fatbergs in the sewer. A well-maintained trap keeps them out of the drains. If you’re dealing with drains clogged with fat and an overdue grease trap, we can help.
Work in a small place like Ridgeway starts with agreeing a date and access, and the deep clean is the same as anywhere: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment.
A written report with photos follows every visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

How we price grease trap cleaning
Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:
- The number of sites or systems
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- The condition we find in the survey
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us for straight advice and a fixed quote.
What we need to know
What to send for a quote:
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
What the work involves, part by part
Inline grease traps
An inline trap sits in the pipework between the kitchen and the drain. They hold more than under-sink units but still need regular emptying.
Restaurant and takeaway kitchens
Busy kitchens cannot afford a blocked drain. Regular trap cleaning helps prevent it.

Signs you need grease trap cleaning in Ridgeway
Hot washing-up water keeps grease liquid for a while. When it cools, the grease hardens in the pipework or the drain.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Sinks that drain slowly
- A full, neglected grease trap
- Drains that gurgle and bubble
- A small trap that fills too quickly
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like William Harvey Hospital about 2.4 miles north-west, deep cleans and grease trap visits are planned so meals still go out.

FAQs for Ridgeway
Do you work at weekends in Ridgeway?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. That way a site in Ridgeway doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your opening times and we will plan around them.
Do you cover smaller places like Ridgeway?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Ridgeway included. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
How often should a grease trap be cleaned?
It varies with the trap and the kitchen. Slow or smelly sinks between cleans mean it needs doing more often and we’ll adjust the schedule.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.
Will you tell us when the next visit is due?
Yes. The recommended date is on the report. BESA’s minimum intervals for kitchen extracts range from 3-monthly for heavy use to 12-monthly for light use, and fire dampers need testing at least once a year.
What does a grease trap clean cost?
We price it once we know the trap and how often it needs cleaning. Get in touch and we will send you a fixed quote before any work starts.
Do you take the waste away?
The fat, oil, grease and solids we remove go with us. None of it goes back into the drains at any point.
Do I get a report after the visit?
Yes, on every job. It’s a dated, written report with pictures, plus a certificate via the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal for TR19® Grease cleans. File it with your fire safety records.
What grease trap cleaning cannot fix
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- A leaking sink waste or trap connection
- A unit that can’t cope with the kitchen’s output
- Sewer problems outside the premises
If you’re not sure, just call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
Where we work
- Inline grease traps
- Restaurants and takeaways
- Under-sink grease traps
- School and care home kitchens
- Kitchen waste pipes
- Pot wash sinks
The process
Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Ridgeway.
- We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
- We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
- We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
- The inside, baffles and pipe connections are cleaned.
- We put it back together, run water through and remove the waste.
Getting ready for the visit
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
Ask for a quote
To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

What happens if it’s left?
A blocked drain can stop a kitchen in its tracks. Sinks won’t empty and waste water can come back up. Cleaning the grease trap on time helps prevent it. In a small place like Ridgeway, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Ridgeway kitchens: local notes
Food Standards Agency data counts about 3 restaurants, cafés and works canteens across Ridgeway and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Kitchens like these wash fat, oil and grease down the sink every day, and a grease trap is what stops it reaching the sewer. About 53 miles out from central London, Ridgeway is part of the South East area we work across. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours. It’s Ashford council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Ridgeway. Walls, floors, ceilings and equipment are all part of what they look at. A cleaning log that includes deep cleans and grease trap visits shows the work is planned.
Where a church or community hall near Church of St Mary, or anywhere in Ridgeway, has a kitchen used by volunteers, a periodic deep clean keeps it ready for the next event. School kitchens, at schools like Smeeth Community Primary School for example, typically have their deep cleans and grease trap work done while the canteen is closed.

Multi-site and managed buildings
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.
