Extract fan cleaning near North Hyde

Multi-site and managed buildings

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.

Extract fan cleaning in North Hyde, done properly

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you have a noisy fan that has got louder over time and less air being pulled from the kitchen, we can put it right, from discharge points, axial fans and fan housings onwards.

London kitchens are often tucked into basements or the back of a building, with extract ducts that can climb several floors to discharge at roof level. For a kitchen in North Hyde, that usually means a longer system to clean and more access panels to plan around.

Good records are part of the job. You get a written report with photos after each visit, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

FAQs for North Hyde

Can you come to North Hyde after we close?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. That way a site in North Hyde doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Can a school canteen extract in North Hyde be done out of term time?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Around North Hyde, the Food Standards Agency lists about 33 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the dates the site is empty.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We carry full insurance, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Can the fan be cleaned between full cleans?

Yes, a fan can be cleaned on its own. It’s useful when a fan is noisy or greasy between full cleans, but it doesn’t replace a full TR19 clean.

What if the fan needs more than a clean?

Cleaning removes grease, but it can’t fix worn parts. We repair and replace extract fans as well, with a fixed quote first.

Do you work in North Hyde?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, and that includes North Hyde.

Should the extract fan be cleaned as part of TR19?

Yes, the fan is cleaned as part of TR19. If a fan cannot be reached, the report says so, so you always know what was cleaned.

Do you provide a report after cleaning the fan?

You get a photo report with before and after pictures of the fan. Full system cleans come with a TR19 certificate as well.

Grease, kitchens and North Hyde

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 19 pubs, bars and clubs and about 9 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses within about 1.5 miles of central North Hyde. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. London Fire Brigade covers North Hyde. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Overnight is the normal time to clean a London kitchen extract, so trading isn’t affected.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as St Bernard's Hospital (about 1.6 miles north-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Osterley House is about 1.3 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

North Hyde is about 1 mile south of Southall, in Greater London. Every kind of commercial site in North Hyde, we can take on extract fan cleaning. Common problems we fix in North Hyde

A greasy fan in North Hyde is fuel at the end of the duct. If grease in the duct catches, the fan and its housing can feed the fire and an overworked motor runs hotter.

Look out for these warning signs:

  • Fat spreading onto the roof or wall by the fan
  • A fan that no longer moves enough air
  • A noisy fan that has got louder over time
  • A fan left out of previous cleans

For schools such as Norwood Green Infant and Nursery School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Before you book anyone

  • Proof of insurance
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

Leave it or put it right?

A greasy fan has to work harder to move the same air. Less air is pulled from the kitchen, so heat and smoke linger and the motor works harder. London buildings are shared, so a fire or failure in one system can reach the neighbours above and beside you.

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

Why us?

  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001
  • Ventilation hygiene specialists since 2009
  • Every job surveyed first
  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London

See what affects the cost or our accreditations and certificates.

What extract fan cleaning can’t fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Grease in the duct and canopy before the fan (those need a full TR19 clean)
  • Electrical faults in the fan’s supply or controls (an electrician’s job)
  • A motor that has burnt out

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Axial fans
  • Fan housings
  • In-line fans
  • Roof-mounted fans
  • Discharge points
  • Centrifugal fans

What happens on the day

We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. From there, it takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. In North Hyde, as across London, we typically work overnight or at weekends and hand the site back ready to open.

  1. First we check the fan’s condition and how it sounds.
  2. Once isolated, we open the fan up.
  3. The impeller is cleaned blade by blade so it runs balanced.
  4. We clean the casing, the outlet and around the motor.
  5. The fan goes back into service with a report on its condition.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

Get a fixed quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Advice

Aftercare tips

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Keep the grease filters clean and in place
  • Listen for new noises or vibration from the fan
  • Book the fan into every full TR19 clean
  • File the fan’s report with your other records

When the fan is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If only the fan is cleaned, the photo report says so.

Fewer grease particles reaching the fan means less build-up. Keep the grease filters clean, fitted and in place, and replace any that are damaged.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
