How we handle extract fan cleaning in Islip

If the ducts are the arteries, the fan is the heart. A heart under strain works harder for less. Our job is to clear it, check it runs smoothly and record what we found, before signing it off. We’re often asked to deal with thick grease on the impeller and casing and a fan that no longer moves enough air, across axial fans, roof-mounted fans and fan housings.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Each visit ends with a written report and photos, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What extract fan cleaning looks like in Islip

Islip is about 54 miles from central London, well within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included. It’s Cherwell council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Islip. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Churchill Hospital about 4.1 miles south, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. For kitchens close to Islip station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.

Islip is about 5 miles north of Oxford, in Oxfordshire. Islip gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. 443 places in Oxfordshire are on our list, large and small.

Here we cover the OX5 postcode area for extract fan cleaning. If you need extract fan cleaning at premises on High Street, King's Head Lane and Middle Way or anywhere close by, we can help. We also cover the places around Islip: Gosford (2 miles south-west), Hampton Poyle (2 miles north-west), Kidlington (2 miles west), Bletchingdon (3 miles north-west) and Weston-on-the-Green (3 miles north). What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning

There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • What state the system is in
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The scale of the work

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Helping us quote

What to send for a quote:

  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

What happens if it’s left?

Cleaning the fan in Islip now is a short job: the work takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. Waiting adds vibration, wear and a harder clean. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.

The process

Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Islip.

  1. First we check the fan’s condition and how it sounds.
  2. Once isolated, we open the fan up.
  3. Each blade is cleaned so the impeller runs evenly.
  4. We clean the casing, the outlet and around the motor.
  5. The fan goes back into service with a report on its condition.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Let us know about parking and loading

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

What we are called out for in Islip

Grease condenses as the air cools, and on a roof or outside wall the fan can be in some of the coolest air in the system. That makes it a natural place for grease to settle.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A noisy fan that has got louder over time
  • A fan coated in grease inside its housing
  • An extract fan with no cleaning record
  • Vibration from an unbalanced impeller

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Nicholas' Church or elsewhere in Islip, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Comparing quotes

  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • What paperwork you get at the end

Our hiring checklist

Between visits

Once we have finished, these simple steps help:

  • Report grease escaping from the fan
  • Tell us if the extract feels weaker
  • Make sure the fan is included each time
  • Don’t store items in front of the fan’s access point

If the fan needs more than a clean, we will say so plainly. Fan repair and replacement are services we offer too, so you have one point of contact.

Keep the route to the fan clear. A fan that can be reached safely is a fan that gets cleaned, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.

What the work involves, part by part

Kitchens with long cooking hours

Kitchens that cook 12 to 16 hours a day put the most grease through their fans. Under BESA guidance, heavy use means cleaning at least every 3 months, fan included.

Impellers and blades

The impeller is the spinning part that moves the air, and it collects grease unevenly. An uneven coating throws it off balance, so it’s cleaned carefully blade by blade.

Honest limits

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what extract fan cleaning will not do:

  • A fan that was never right for the kitchen
  • Electrical faults in the fan’s supply or controls (an electrician’s job)
  • An impeller that is bent or split

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Discharge points
  • Centrifugal fans
  • In-line fans
  • Roof-mounted fans
  • Axial fans
  • Fan housings

Islip questions

Do you work overnight in Islip?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Islip needn’t be disturbed. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Islip?

In Islip, it’s Cherwell council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Who is the responsible person?

That depends on who controls the premises. The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty on the responsible person, which can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, an FM or a managing agent.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No. TR19® itself is not law; it’s a BESA specification. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.

Are you accredited?

Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.

Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.
