About our extract fan cleaning in Bicester

We have been trading since 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and full insurance. Common call-outs are for a fan coated in grease inside its housing and grease stains around the discharge, across centrifugal fans, discharge points and roof-mounted fans.

For a pub, café or restaurant in a town like Bicester, losing a day’s trade to cleaning isn’t an option, so cleans are booked after closing, early in the morning or on a quiet day. The kitchen is handed back clean and ready to cook.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

How it works

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes an hour or two for most single fans. Before the visit, a few photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan the work in Bicester.

  1. We start by checking where the fan sits and how to isolate it.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. The impeller and the housing around it are scraped clean.
  4. Blades, housing and the area around the motor are degreased with care.
  5. The fan is put back into service, checked and photographed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

Advice

For landlords and multi-site operators

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

Extract fan cleaning in Bicester: the local picture

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 70 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 34 takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Bicester. The fan at the end of each of those extracts collects grease that slows it and wears the motor. In Bicester, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Cherwell council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. The fire and rescue service for Bicester is Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Commuter trade near Bicester North station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Brookside Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Edburg or elsewhere in Bicester, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Why act early in Bicester

A fan clean in Bicester does not take long: the work takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Leaving it means more wear, more noise and a bigger clean later. A fresh certificate on file is the best thing to have when someone asks to see your records.

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

Bicester: your questions answered

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Bicester?

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Bicester. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Bicester out of term?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. There are about 10 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Bicester. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line, and we’ll advise on what to do next.

Is it safe to clean the fan while the kitchen is open?

It has to be off and isolated, for safety. We clean out of hours, in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so cooking is not affected.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

Does the law say we must follow TR19?

No. The law sets the duty, and TR19® is the recognised benchmark for meeting it. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and without records, many insurers may refuse or reduce a claim.

How much notice do you need?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

What accreditations do you have?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

What the work involves, part by part

Wall fans

Smaller kitchens may extract through a fan on an outside wall. We isolate it, then clean the blades and housing.

Inline duct fans

Some fans are built into the duct itself. We get to them through the duct or casing, once they’re isolated.
