Honest limits

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • A faulty speed controller or isolator
  • Grease in the duct and canopy before the fan (those need a full TR19 clean)
  • A fan that was never right for the kitchen

If you are not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

About our extract fan cleaning in Heart's Delight

Grease on a fan is not spread evenly. Heavier deposits on some blades throw the impeller off balance, leading to vibration, noise and strain on the motor and bearings. A thorough clean removes the cause. Common call-outs are for hot, greasy smells near the fan and a fan that hums, whines or rumbles, on axial fans, discharge points and fan housings.

Somewhere as small as Heart's Delight, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

What happens on the day

Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Heart's Delight before we set off.

  1. Diagnosis first: we look for grease, noise and vibration.
  2. Once isolated, we open the fan up.
  3. Each blade is cleaned so the impeller runs evenly.
  4. Housing, outlet and the area around the motor are cleaned.
  5. We run the fan and note its condition in the photo report.

How to prepare

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

How to get a quote

Advice

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning

The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How easy every part is to reach

You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and we’ll talk you through it.

What we need to know

We can often survey from photos. Try to include:

  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Extract fan cleaning around Heart's Delight

It’s Canterbury City council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Heart's Delight. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Fire safety in Heart's Delight falls to Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Acrise Place is about 4.4 miles south), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. For schools such as Barham Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Where a hall near Church of St John the Baptist, or anywhere in Heart's Delight, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Heart's Delight: your questions answered

Can you come to Heart's Delight after we close?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. Your customers, staff or residents in Heart's Delight needn’t be disturbed. Just ring 0345 646 2711 or email us with your opening times and we will plan around them.

Do you cover smaller places like Heart's Delight?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

How much notice do you need?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes normally come back within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No. The law sets the duty; TR19® is the benchmark used to show it’s met. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person has to manage fire risk, and without records, many insurers may refuse or reduce a claim.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line, and we’ll advise on what to do next.

What’s TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Can you clean the fan on its own?

Yes, we do. The report will make clear that only the fan was cleaned, so your TR19 records stay accurate. The full system still needs its regular TR19 clean.

Different parts, different methods

Roof-mounted fans

On a roof, the air is cooler and grease drops out faster. The impeller and housing are scraped and degreased.

Impellers and blades

The blades of the impeller do the work, and grease builds up on them unevenly. An uneven coating throws it off balance, so it’s cleaned carefully blade by blade.

Why act early in Heart's Delight

A fan that fails mid-service can stop a kitchen cooking. Grease is often where fan trouble begins, so keeping it clean is part of keeping it running. If it does fail, our 24/7 emergency line is there. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Heart's Delight rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.

Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.

Keeping the system healthy

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Flag smoke lingering at the canopy
  • Keep the grease filters clean and in place
  • Make sure the fan is included each time
  • Report grease escaping from the fan

When we have finished, the fan is reassembled and run. Anything we notice, like noise, vibration or a worn part, goes on the report, so you can plan any repair.

Fewer grease particles reaching the fan means less build-up. Keep the grease filters clean, fitted and in place, and replace any that are damaged.
