Extract fan cleaning for sites in Erith

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

How we handle extract fan cleaning in Erith

Every TR19® Grease clean includes the extract fan, but some fans need cleaning between full cleans, especially when it has started to vibrate or sound rough. Where only the fan is cleaned, the report says so. The work covers discharge points, roof-mounted fans and fan housings, and the jobs we see most are an extract fan with no cleaning record and a smell of hot grease from the extract.

In London, few kitchens can spare a day to close, so work in Erith is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

Honest limits

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • A fan that won’t start
  • A dirty duct upstream of the fan
  • Wiring faults to the fan

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think before you book.

Where we work

  • Fan housings
  • Discharge points
  • Axial fans
  • In-line fans
  • Roof-mounted fans
  • Centrifugal fans

What we do, step by step

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Expect the work in Erith to happen after your last customer leaves, not during trading.

  1. First we locate the fan and agree how it’s safely isolated.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. We remove the grease from the blades, impeller and casing.
  4. We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
  5. We reassemble, run the fan and photograph the result.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

How to get a quote

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Keeping the system healthy

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Report rattles or humming early
  • Run the extract throughout cooking
  • Check filters are seated before cooking
  • Don’t store items in front of the fan’s access point

Where the fan needs repair rather than cleaning, the report says so. We also repair and replace extract fans, so you have one point of contact.

Stick to the interval for the full extract. A fan cleaned with the rest of the system on time rarely gets badly coated, in line with BESA guidance.

How we price extract fan cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • How big the system is
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • The number of sites or systems
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Any previous report or certificate

We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us.

Erith kitchens: local notes

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 27 pubs, bars and clubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Erith. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Erith is covered by London Fire Brigade. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Most London extract cleaning happens at night, after the last service.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Erith and District Hospital about under half a mile south-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Where a hall near Christ Church, or anywhere in Erith, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Erith is about 3 miles north-west of Dartford, in Greater London. Every kind of commercial site in Erith, extract fan cleaning is something we can help with. Visits can be booked for evenings, overnight or weekends so trading isn’t interrupted. Erith is one of 764 towns, villages and districts in Greater London where we work for commercial clients. Erith questions

Which fire authority looks after Erith?

London Fire Brigade is the fire and rescue service for Erith. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Can you come to Erith after we close?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

How much does extract fan cleaning cost in Erith?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote and we’ll typically reply within one working day.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

Do you need to turn the fan off to clean it?

With the fan isolated, the extract is not running. We work evenings, overnight or weekends, and the kitchen is ready when we leave.

Are you accredited?

We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.

Is the fan included in a TR19 clean?

Yes. TR19® Grease covers the whole system, fan included. We clean it alongside the canopy, ductwork and discharge.

Where does the waste go?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Erith

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in Erith and across Greater London. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

When to call us in Erith

The fan sits at the end of the grease’s journey. The grease that’s left lands on the blades and the casing, and the spinning blades fling it onto the walls of the housing.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Grease stains around the discharge
  • A fan that has never been cleaned
  • A fan that hums, whines or rumbles
  • A heavily greased fan housing

Commuter trade near Erith station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands.
