Aftercare tips

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
  • Never cook with a filter missing
  • Keep to the interval on the report

A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It records the date, the location and the technician.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Whiteley Village

We have been trading since 2009, working across London and the South East. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. The work covers attenuators, access panels and multi-storey ducts, and people most often call us about ductwork that has never been cleaned and readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test.

In a village or hamlet like Whiteley Village, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

Multi-site and managed buildings

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

What affects the quote in Whiteley Village

Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • The scale of the work
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels

The cost depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

Whiteley Village kitchens: local notes

Look up Whiteley Village on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 17 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 3 takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Whiteley Village. Each kitchen that cooks under a canopy sends grease-laden air into a duct, where it cools and settles. Food hygiene inspections in Whiteley Village are the job of Elmbridge council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Whiteley Village is covered by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Mark, or anywhere in Whiteley Village, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like No. 2 New Zealand General Hospital about 2.4 miles north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Common questions in Whiteley Village

Do you cover smaller places like Whiteley Village?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Whiteley Village is covered. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Which fire authority looks after Whiteley Village?

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Whiteley Village. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

What does TR19 mean?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Every job is surveyed first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where necessary. A fixed quote follows.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.

What happens to the waste?

We contain it and take it with us. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

What does ductwork cleaning cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. We fix the price before we start.

When it’s something else

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Ductwork that was poorly designed
  • A worn-out fan that needs replacing
  • Leaking duct joints that need repair

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Vertical risers
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Bends and junctions
  • Attenuators
  • Access panels

How the visit works

The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. The timing of a visit to Whiteley Village is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
  2. Set points along the runs are tested for grease.
  3. We open the panels and scrape out the heaviest grease.
  4. Horizontal runs and risers are then degreased by the method that suits the deposit.
  5. We test again, take photos and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

How to prepare

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Clear the space around the work
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Getting a quote

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711 or email us.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Common problems we fix in Whiteley Village

Air cools as it moves away from the canopy. As it cools, the grease it carries condenses onto the duct walls, which is why ducts go on gathering grease well beyond the filters.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
  • Gaps where access panels were never fitted
  • Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
  • A grease test showing the duct is overdue

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Notre Dame Senior School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

  • Whether VAT is included
