AHU cleaning in Whiteley Village

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

How we handle AHU cleaning in Whiteley Village

An AHU clean is a thorough examination and treatment of the unit. Every section is opened, cleaned and photographed, so the report shows exactly what was done. The work covers filter sections, drain trays and supply and extract fans, and the jobs we see most are units that have only ever had filter changes and drain trays holding standing water.

Rural buildings with mechanical ventilation, such as care homes and country hotels, often keep their units in roof spaces or outbuildings, where filters and drain trays get forgotten.

We have been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Aftercare tips

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Keep inspection doors on the unit in good order
  • Keep filter changes on time and recorded
  • Keep the area around the fresh air intake clear
  • Report musty smells from the vents straight away

The ducts served by the unit may need attention too. A clean unit feeding dirty ducts only solves half the problem, and we can survey both.

Make sure access doors and panels on the unit open easily. Sections that are awkward to open are the ones that get skipped.

Part by part

Heating and cooling coils

Cooling coils stay damp in use, so dirt on them can turn sticky. The coil and its drain tray are cleaned as one job.

Fans and fan sections

Every bit of air passes the fan, so a dirty fan sends dirt downstream. The impeller, its housing and the fan chamber are cleaned.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes anything from half a day for one small unit to several shifts for a plant room full of them. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Whiteley Village.

  1. We agree a shutdown window that suits the building.
  2. We take before pictures of each section of the unit.
  3. We work through the unit from the intake to the outlet.
  4. The fan and drain tray are cleaned and the drain checked.
  5. We take after pictures and issue the certificate and report.
