The City ductwork cleaning
Ductwork cleaning across The City and nearby, timed so the site keeps working and signed off in writing with pictures.
- Heavy grease at the base of a riser
- A rancid smell from the extract duct
- Hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs
Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in The City
No two duct runs are the same, in The City or anywhere else. A few metres to an outside wall, or a riser up through the building to a roof fan. The survey traces the route, so we know where to get in and how long it will take. The work covers bends and junctions, attenuators and multi-storey ducts, and common reasons people get in touch are gaps where access panels were never fitted and fat dripping from the ductwork.
In a small place like The City, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What we do, step by step
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near The City, let us know and we will plan around it.
- We trace the duct and find every way in.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Getting ready for the visit
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
Getting a quote
To get a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll usually have a quote within one working day.

What happens if it’s left?
A dirty duct is something insurers ask about. Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and a claim may be refused or reduced without evidence. A certificate that covers the ductwork is what they want to see. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to The City is calmer for everyone.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

What we are called out for in The City
Grease in a duct running from a kitchen in The City is as much a fire risk as in any building. Once it lights, fire can spread along the duct and into other areas, which is why the responsible person needs it under control.
What we are most often called out for:
- A duct nobody has opened in years
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
- Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
- Duct runs that can’t be reached
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Paul, or anywhere in The City, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

FAQs for The City
Can you come to The City after we close?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. It means the site in The City keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Do you cover smaller places like The City?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Can you clean ductwork with no access panels?
Sections out of reach are written down on the report, in line with TR19. We can fit new access panels so they’re cleaned next time.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.
How often does extract ductwork need cleaning?
It follows the same interval as the whole extract, ranging from 3-monthly to 12-monthly. Grease thickness testing shows whether that’s often enough.
How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?
We survey the route, test the grease, then open the access panels. We clean the runs and risers section by section, and test again when we are done.
Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?
The Fire Safety Order 2005 calls them the responsible person: normally the employer or whoever controls the premises. In shared or managed buildings, a landlord, facilities manager or managing agent can share the duty.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.
Keeping the system healthy
Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
- Report any grease dripping from duct joints
- Diarise the next duct clean
- Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
The report gives a recommended next clean date, based on the readings and your daily cooking hours, in line with BESA guidance.
Extra access panels mean more of the duct gets cleaned each time. Grease you can reach is grease that gets removed.
Part by part
Access panels
Every section of duct is cleaned through an access panel. Without them, parts of the duct cannot be reached and the report has to say so.
Multi-storey and shared buildings
In a building with several floors, the duct may pass other tenants’ spaces. We plan access with you and the building manager, so the clean is done safely and quietly.
What ductwork cleaning looks like in The City
Food Standards Agency records list about 4 restaurants, cafés and canteens across The City and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Wherever those kitchens cook under a canopy, the horizontal runs and risers need cleaning as well as the hood. Kitchens in The City get their food hygiene inspections from Buckinghamshire council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. The City is covered by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in The City
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:
- The condition of the system
- The size of the system
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.
What we need to know
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- A few general shots of the system
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
