Need canopy cleaning in The City?

Canopy cleaning in The City, done properly

If the canopy in The City is dripping, sticky or overdue a clean? Send us a photo of the hood and filters when you phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we’ll send you a fixed quote for canopy cleaning, usually within one working day. The work covers baffle filters, plenum chambers and island canopies, and people most often call us about a canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection and greasy streaks across the canopy.

For a kitchen in or near The City, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

A written report with pictures follows every visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes a few hours for most canopies. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in The City before we set off.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. We protect everything below once it has cooled.
  3. Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
  4. Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
  5. The canopy is signed off with before and after photos and a next clean date.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

How to get a quote

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Advice

For landlords and multi-site operators

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in The City and across Buckinghamshire. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

What a clean won’t put right

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Electrical faults in the canopy
  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly.

FAQs for The City

Do you work in villages like The City?

Yes, The City is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Which fire service covers The City?

It’s Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, which covers The City. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

What types of premises do you cover?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, as well as food production and leisure sites.

Do you clean inside the canopy as well as outside?

Everything from the outer face to the plenum behind the filters. Troughs, gutters and filter housings are cleaned too.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.

How long is a canopy clean?

That depends on the size of the canopy and how much grease is on it. As a guide, it takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for anything that can’t wait until a planned visit. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.

What do you do to protect the area?

We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

What affects the quote in The City

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We take into account:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • How big the system is
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule

You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we will explain what it covers.

Asking for a quote

You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:

  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

The City kitchens: local notes

Food Standards Agency data counts about 4 restaurants, cafés and canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of The City. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Food hygiene inspections in The City are the job of Buckinghamshire council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. The fire and rescue service for The City is Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Wycombe Hospital about 5 miles south-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Paul or anywhere around The City, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

The City is about 5 miles north-west of High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire. Whatever kind of site you run in The City, we can take on canopy cleaning. We can work out of hours so the site keeps running. The City is one of 263 towns, villages and districts in Buckinghamshire where we work for commercial clients. We also work in Reading, around 15 miles away.

We work across HP14 for canopy cleaning and the roads nearby. Local streets include Bottle Square Lane, Radnage Common Road and Green Lane, and we cover them all for canopy cleaning. Neighbouring places we cover for canopy cleaning include Waterend (1 mile west), Beacon's Bottom (1 mile south-west), Radnage (1 mile north), Bennett End (1 mile north-west) and Green End (1 mile south-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Aylesbury (11 miles north), High Wycombe (5 miles south-east), Chesham (11 miles east), Marlow (7 miles south-east), Amersham (11 miles east) and Beaconsfield (10 miles east).

Around The City

Around The City, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near The Crown pub, among other places. The closest station to The City is Saunderton station, roughly 1.8 miles north-east. Nearby you’ll also find Wycombe Hospital (5 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Yoesden and Bald Hill.

Keeping the system healthy

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Check filters aren’t leaving gaps
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Keep the fan on through service
  • Clean the baffle filters often

We point out anything we noticed while the canopy was apart: bent or poorly fitting filters, a light cover that is cracked, or troughs that fill too quickly. We keep it to what matters.

A change in how the canopy behaves is worth reporting. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.

Why act early in The City

Drips from a dirty canopy land on the cooking line. It’s a food hygiene concern as much as a fire concern, and environmental health officers look at the cleanliness of equipment, extraction included. In a place like The City, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

What we are called out for in The City

Moisture in the air mixes with the grease on the canopy. Water vapour condenses on the cooler canopy surfaces and drips and runs with the grease. Drips onto the cooking line are a common result.

Look out for these warning signs:

  • Canopy gutters full of old fat
  • A hood coated in old grease
  • Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
  • Condensation running down the canopy

West Wycombe Park House, about 2.7 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses near The City; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.
