Ductwork cleaning in Marlow, Buckinghamshire
Ductwork cleaning for Marlow and the surrounding area: diagnosis first, then a fixed quote, the work and a report with pictures. Call for a fixed quote.
- Gaps where access panels were never fitted
- Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
- A grease test showing the duct is overdue
Ductwork cleaning in Marlow
Every duct has its own route. A few metres to an outside wall, or a riser up through the building to a roof fan. The survey traces the route, so we know where to get in and how long it will take. The work covers bends and junctions, vertical risers and horizontal duct runs, and people most often call us about thick crusts of old grease along the duct and grease seeping out of the duct seams.
Many kitchens in a town like Marlow were fitted into buildings built for something else, which can mean awkward duct routes, long flat runs and not enough access panels. Where the duct can’t be reached, new panels can be fitted, and anything left uncleaned is recorded on the report.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Why deal with it now?
There’s no law that names TR19. The Fire Safety Order 2005 makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, including the grease inside the extract ductwork. Dealt with now, it’s a planned visit around your hours rather than a callout when the site needs to be open.
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Different parts, different methods
Vertical risers
A riser takes the duct up through one or more floors. Grease collects on the walls and at the foot of the riser, which is one of the points we test.
Horizontal duct runs
Grease settles on the floor of a flat duct run. Thick deposits are scraped out by hand before degreasing, then the walls and roof are cleaned too.
What ductwork cleaning cannot fix
To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:
- A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
- Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
- Duct sections that need replacing
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

How the visit works
A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the ductwork cleaning, tidy up and leave you the report. On site, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. Let us know how to reach the roof or plant area at your site in Marlow, and where the van can go.
- Diagnosis: a survey of the duct’s route, size and access.
- You get a fixed price before work starts.
- Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
- We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
- The duct is signed off with readings, pictures and a next clean date.
Before we arrive
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
Getting a quote
For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We usually come back within one working day.

Between visits
Results last longer with the right care. We suggest:
- Keep to the interval on the report
- File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
- Never cook with a filter missing
- Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
The report gives a recommended next clean date, based on the readings and your daily cooking hours, in line with BESA guidance.
Keep to the cleaning interval on the report. A change in cooking hours may change the interval under BESA guidance, and grease thickness testing will show it.
Questions from Marlow
Do you work at weekends in Marlow?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. That way a site in Marlow does not have to lose a day’s trading. When you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, mention when the site is quiet.
Do you clean school canteen extracts around Marlow out of term?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. The FSA’s register shows about 8 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Marlow. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
How can I tell if my extract ducts are dirty?
Signs include grease dripping from joints, smells and a fan working harder, but the only sure way is to measure. Grease thickness testing shows exactly where the duct stands.
How far ahead should we book?
Earlier is better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes usually come back within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.
What if parts of the system can’t be reached?
Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with pictures where possible, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.
Do you work in Marlow?
Yes. Marlow is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover.
What’s TR19?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
Will we have to shut during the visit?
Not normally. Visits are timed for when the area is closed, such as overnight or at a weekend, so you keep your normal hours.
Ductwork cleaning around Marlow
Look up Marlow on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 49 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 11 takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Marlow. Wherever those kitchens cook under a canopy, the horizontal runs and risers need cleaning as well as the hood. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Marlow. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Food hygiene inspections in Marlow are the job of Buckinghamshire council’s environmental health team. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
A hospital like Marlow Community Hospital, about under half a mile east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. If you run a café or takeaway near Marlow station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits. For schools such as Holy Trinity Church of England (Aided) School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning
The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- The condition of the system
- Travel, parking and unloading
- The scale of the work
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we will price it together.
What to send for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Problems your staff have spotted
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Any previous report or certificate
Need a price for ductwork cleaning? Please call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with a few details about the site. We’ll explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before you commit to anything.
What staff can safely do
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
