Ductwork cleaning in Stroud
No two duct runs are the same, in Stroud or anywhere else. A few metres to an outside wall, or a riser up through the building to a roof fan. The survey traces the route, so we know where to get in and how long it will take. If you’re dealing with sections of duct with no access panels and years of grease along the duct floor, we can put it right.
Somewhere as small as Stroud, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Stroud: your questions answered
Which environmental health team covers Stroud?
In Stroud, it’s East Hampshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Can you work in Stroud outside opening hours?
Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The site is handed back ready to open. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we will book within them.
Are you insured?
Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.
Does the law say we must follow TR19?
No. TR19® itself isn’t law; it’s a BESA specification. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.
Is a quote from pictures possible?
In many cases, yes. With good photos, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.
Who has the legal duty for fire safety?
In the words of the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person. That is generally the employer or the person in control of the premises, and in shared buildings more than one person can have duties. Your lease and fire risk assessment should make it clear.
What do you need from me for a quote?
The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
What the work involves, part by part
Bends and transitions
Grease tends to pile up at elbows. We clean it back by hand and with degreaser, and readings are taken there before and after.
Access panels
Extra panels can be installed where there are gaps, so the next clean reaches more of the system. The survey shows where they’re needed.
How the visit works
The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers, and we clear up before we go. Somewhere as small as Stroud, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.
- We trace the duct and find every way in.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
- Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
- We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.
Getting ready for the visit
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
Get a fixed quote
We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
Advice
Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in Stroud
We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- Travel, parking and unloading
- The number of sites or systems
- The condition we find in the survey
We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we will talk you through it.
What we need to know
To speed up the quote, please include:
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.
Kitchen extracts in Stroud
The FSA’s data shows about 8 pubs and bars registered within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Stroud. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Stroud is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Environmental health officers from East Hampshire council inspect food businesses in Stroud. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
Term dates shape school work: for a school like Langrish Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Stroud Mission Church or elsewhere in Stroud, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Petersfield Community Hospital is the nearest hospital to Stroud, about 1.3 miles east.

Why act early in Stroud
Old grease in a duct for a kitchen in Stroud doesn’t stay soft. Heat and age turn it into a thick, stubborn crust, so the later the clean, the bigger the job. A fault that closes a site in a village like Stroud affects everyone who depends on it.
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.
Why choose Duct Doctor in Stroud

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
Looking after it afterwards
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:
- Do not switch the extract off early
- Report any grease dripping from duct joints
- Check readings when the menu changes
- Keep to the interval on the report
Any section of duct we couldn’t reach is listed on the report, with the reason. We can fit access panels so those sections are cleaned next time.
Watch for warning signs between cleans: drips from the ductwork, stale smells or a noisy fan. A grease thickness test can confirm whether a spot clean is needed.
What a clean will not put right
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Leaking duct joints that need repair
- Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
- Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)
If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
