Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Steep
We treat ductwork like a doctor treats arteries: find the blockages, clear them, then check the flow is right. Grease readings before and after give you the evidence, alongside before and after photos. The work covers multi-storey ducts, access panels and vertical risers, and the jobs we see most are a duct clean needed for an insurer and thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct.
For a kitchen in or near Steep, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

How the visit works
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. In a small place like Steep, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.
- The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
Getting a quote
For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will typically have a quote within one working day.
Advice
What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- The times the site is available
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- The size of the system
We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.
What we need to know
What to send for a quote:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Questions from Steep
Can school kitchens in Steep be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. There are about 5 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Steep. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Will you come out to Steep?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Steep included. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
How much does ductwork cleaning cost in Steep?
Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and tell us about the site and its opening hours.
How do you clean inside the ductwork?
Through access panels along the duct. Heavy grease is scraped out by hand, then the surfaces are degreased with a method that suits the deposit, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.
What happens to the waste?
It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.
Which accreditations do you hold?
We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.
What types of premises do you cover?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, as well as food production and leisure sites.
What paperwork do you give after a duct clean?
A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate and a photo report. It includes readings, pictures and any unreachable sections.
What a clean will not put right
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- Duct sections that need replacing
- Sections that cannot be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
- Ductwork that was poorly designed
If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think.
Where we work
- Horizontal duct runs
- Attenuators
- Access panels
- Vertical risers
- Multi-storey ducts
- Bends and junctions
What the work involves, part by part
Bends and transitions
Bends, elbows and changes of size are where grease collects most. Slowing air leaves grease behind, so we clean these points carefully.
Horizontal duct runs
A long flat run can’t be cleaned from one end. Where the gaps between panels are too long, we record what couldn’t be reached and can fit extra panels.
Between visits
Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:
- Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
- File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
- Book the next clean before the recommended date
- Ask us about extra access panels where sections can’t be reached
Keep the certificate and report with the fire risk assessment. An insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask to see it, and the pictures make the duct’s condition easy to see.
Have access panels fitted where sections can’t be reached. It does not stop grease forming, but it stops it building unseen.

Do you need ductwork cleaning in Steep?
Damaged or poorly fitted filters let more grease into the duct. More grease reaches the ductwork than it should and it fills faster.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Heavy grease at the base of a riser
- Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
- Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
- Grease leaking from duct joints
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Steep Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School or anywhere near Steep, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Kitchen extracts in Steep
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 8 pubs and bars within about 1.5 miles of central Steep. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Steep is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. It’s East Hampshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Steep. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of All Saints or anywhere around Steep, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.
