Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

How we handle ductwork cleaning in Petersfield

We have been trading since 2009, working across London and the South East. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If you have thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct and readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test, we can put it right.

Most kitchens in a town like Petersfield can’t close for a day, so cleans are booked after closing, early in the morning or on a quiet day. By the next service, the kitchen is ready to cook in again.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

How we price ductwork cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle

The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

What to send for a quote

We can often survey from photos. Try to include:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you will usually have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Honest limits

Not every problem is solved by ductwork cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • Ductwork that was poorly designed
  • Faulty fire dampers
  • A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Vertical risers
  • Bends and junctions
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Attenuators
  • Access panels
  • Horizontal duct runs

What we do, step by step

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. In Petersfield, the visit is planned around your opening hours, parking and access to the system.

  1. Diagnosis: a survey of the duct’s route, size and access.
  2. You get a fixed price before work starts.
  3. Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
  4. Bends, risers and the base of each riser get extra attention.
  5. The duct is signed off with readings, pictures and a next clean date.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

Get a fixed quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Advice

For landlords and multi-site operators

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

FAQs for Petersfield

Which environmental health team covers Petersfield?

The local authority for Petersfield is East Hampshire council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Petersfield in the summer holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Around Petersfield, the Food Standards Agency lists about 5 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Send us your term dates when you call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we’ll fit the work in.

How do you clean inside the ductwork?

We open each access panel and clean the section it reaches. Heavy grease comes out by hand, and what’s left is degreased, with readings taken before and after.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

How can I tell if my extract ducts are dirty?

Drips, smells and weak extraction are clues, but the only sure way is to measure. A WFTT or DTT reading gives a clear answer.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.

Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?

Every clean comes with a photo report, and a full TR19 clean also comes with a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. File them with the fire risk assessment.

What about areas you can’t get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

What happens if it’s left?

Booking the duct clean in Petersfield now keeps it a planned job. It takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access, done out of hours so the kitchen keeps cooking. A fresh certificate on file is the best thing to have when someone asks to see your records.

You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we’ll explain what it covers.

Keeping the system healthy

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Book the next clean before the recommended date
  • Ask us about extra access panels where sections can’t be reached
  • Flag drips from the duct straight away
  • Never cook with a filter missing

After the clean, the same points are tested again, giving you before and after readings. Before and after pictures sit next to the numbers.

Some signs mean the duct needs attention sooner: drips from the ductwork, stale smells or a noisy fan. A grease thickness test can confirm whether a spot clean is needed.
