Ductwork cleaning in Eastleigh
No two duct runs are the same, in Eastleigh or anywhere else. A few metres to an outside wall, or a riser up through the building to a roof fan. The survey traces the route, so we know where to get in and how long it will take. Common call-outs are for an insurer asking for TR19 evidence and stale grease odours from the duct, across attenuators, access panels and multi-storey ducts.
In a town like Eastleigh, most of the kitchen extracts we are asked about belong to restaurants, cafés, pubs, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. Each has a canopy, filters, ductwork and a fan to keep clear of grease, and each is cleaned to the same TR19® standard.
Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.
What a clean will not put right
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- Sections that cannot be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
- Undersized or badly laid-out ducts
- A worn-out fan that needs replacing
If you are not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
What the work covers
- Bends and junctions
- Horizontal duct runs
- Access panels
- Multi-storey ducts
- Vertical risers
- Attenuators
The process
There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and pictures. The middle part takes longest, which takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Send us pictures of the system and we can plan most of a visit in Eastleigh before we arrive.
- The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

How to get a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
Advice
Multi-site and managed buildings
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
Different parts, different methods
Bends and transitions
Grease tends to pile up at elbows. We clean it back by hand and with degreaser, and test it before and after.
Horizontal duct runs
Horizontal runs carry the extract along ceilings and through voids. Grease drops out of the slowing air along them, so each section is cleaned through its access panels.
Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Eastleigh
Grease settles fastest where the air slows down. Long horizontal runs, bends, changes in size and the foot of a riser all collect more, and those are the points we pay most attention to.
Look out for any of the following:
- A duct nobody has opened in years
- Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
- A rancid smell from the extract duct
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Moorgreen Hospital about 2.9 miles south, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.
What your quote should include
- If they look at the system before pricing
- How VAT is shown on the quote
- How they set the interval to the next visit
- What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
Grease, kitchens and Eastleigh
Food Standards Agency records list about 68 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 27 takeaways and sandwich shops in Eastleigh and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Each kitchen that cooks under a canopy sends grease-laden air into a duct, where it cools and settles. Environmental health officers from Eastleigh council inspect food businesses in Eastleigh. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Eastleigh is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of the Resurrection, or anywhere in Eastleigh, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Norwood Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Aftercare tips
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:
- Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned
- Run the extract fan throughout service
- File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
- Keep access panels clear of stored items
Grease readings are taken again at the same set points, so the report shows the before and after figures. Before and after pictures sit next to the numbers.
Some signs mean the duct needs attention sooner: drips from the ductwork, stale smells or a noisy fan. A grease thickness test can confirm whether a spot clean is needed.
What staff can safely do
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Eastleigh
Which environmental health team covers Eastleigh?
Food hygiene inspections in Eastleigh are carried out by Eastleigh council. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Eastleigh in the summer holidays?
Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 9 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Eastleigh. Send us your term dates when you ring 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we’ll fit the work in.
How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?
Each section is cleaned through its own panel. Grease is scraped out first, then degreased, with readings taken before and after.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.
What paperwork do you give after a duct clean?
You get a photo report with before and after pictures, and a full TR19 clean also comes with a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. File them with the fire risk assessment.
What happens if there aren’t enough access panels?
Without a way in, a section cannot be cleaned properly. Those parts are listed, and we can install panels so they’re reached next time.
How do you know if the ductwork needs cleaning?
The date on the last certificate is the first thing to check. No record, or a passed date, means it’s due, and grease readings will confirm how urgent it is.
Is a quote from photos possible?
Yes, where the photos show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.
