Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Eastleigh
Dripping edges and a sticky hood are the first things a visitor notices. What isn’t seen, behind the filters, tends to be worse. Canopy cleaning deals with both, so the hood looks right and works properly. Common call-outs are for condensation and grease dripping together and a sticky, discoloured canopy, on plenum chambers, island canopies and grease gutters.
Most kitchens in a town like Eastleigh cannot close for a day, so the work is done after service, overnight or on a closed day. The kitchen is handed back clean and ready to cook.
Each visit ends with a written report and photos, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
What happens if it’s left?
Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, so the longer it’s left, the longer the clean takes. Booking now keeps it a routine visit to Eastleigh rather than an urgent one.
No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.
Why choose Duct Doctor in Eastleigh
- We are fully insured
- A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
- Every visit written up, with pictures
- Survey first, then a fixed quote
See our cost guide or our accreditations.
For landlords and multi-site operators
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.
From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
Eastleigh questions
Who is the fire and rescue service for Eastleigh?
Eastleigh is in the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Eastleigh in the summer holidays?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. The FSA’s register shows about 9 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Eastleigh. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with your term dates and we will plan around them.
What accreditations do you have?
CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.
What do you do to protect the area?
We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?
Out-of-hours cleans are how we work, at night, early in the morning or at weekends. The kitchen is handed back ready to cook.
Does a canopy clean meet TR19?
A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. A canopy clean helps between full cleans, but the ducts and fan still need doing, and the report will say what was covered.
Who has the legal duty for fire safety?
That depends on who controls the premises. The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, facilities manager or managing agent.
Which canopies and hoods do you clean?
Canopies in pubs, restaurants, hotels, schools, care homes, offices and other kitchens. The routine stays the same whatever the kitchen, with the equipment off and cool.
How it works
When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the photos you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, it takes a few hours for most canopies. Photos taken on a phone are normally enough for us to plan a job in Eastleigh and give a fixed quote.
- We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
- Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
- We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
- Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
- We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.
Preparing for the visit
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:
- Parking and loading at the site
- What state the system is in
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- How many systems or sites are involved
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.
Asking for a quote
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- The postcode and the type of business
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will usually have a quote within one working day.
Keeping the system healthy
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Leave the extract running until cooking stops
- Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
- Keep every filter in place while cooking
- Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Every filter is refitted and checked, and the kitchen is ready to cook.
Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It doesn’t reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
Kitchen extracts in Eastleigh
The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 68 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 27 takeaways and sandwich shops in Eastleigh and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Kitchens in Eastleigh get their food hygiene inspections from Eastleigh council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. The fire and rescue service for Eastleigh is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Moorgreen Hospital (about 2.9 miles south), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Norwood Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Honest limits

- A dirty extract fan further along the system
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)

What the work covers

When to call us in Eastleigh
A canopy in Eastleigh picks up grease at much the same rate as one anywhere else with the same cooking: it comes down to how long the kitchen cooks and what’s on the menu. High-heat cooking coats it fastest.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
- Filters that clog soon after cleaning
- Poor capture at the hood
- A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of the Resurrection or elsewhere in Eastleigh, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
- If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
