Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Cookham
If the ducts in Cookham haven’t been cleaned for a while, or nobody is sure when they were? A few details about the system are a good start when you ring 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we will send you a fixed quote for ductwork cleaning, typically within one working day. We are often asked to deal with sections of duct with no access panels and a grease test showing the duct is overdue, on access panels, bends and junctions and attenuators.
Size does not change the work: a kitchen in a place like Cookham gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.
The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with photos of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

FAQs for Cookham
Can you get to a site in Cookham?
Yes, Cookham is part of our area, however small the site. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
Can a school canteen extract in Cookham be done out of term time?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Food Standards Agency records list about 8 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Cookham. Just ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your term dates and we will plan around them.
Which accreditations do you hold?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.
What do you do to protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and waste is contained as we go. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.
Will the duct clean disrupt the kitchen?
We plan the clean when you are not cooking. Most kitchens book overnight or weekend cleans, so no service is lost.
Can extra access doors be added to the duct?
Yes, we do. The survey or clean shows where sections couldn’t be reached, and we can fit them so those sections are cleaned in future.
What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?
Through access panels along the duct. Heavy grease is scraped out by hand, then the surfaces are degreased with a method that suits the deposit, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.
Will I get a report after the ducts are cleaned?
A photo report, with readings and before and after pictures, plus a TR19 certificate for a full system clean. It also gives a recommended next clean date.
Leave it or put it right?
A dirty duct is something insurers ask about. Many require cleaning to TR19, and they can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. Your certificate and photo report show the ducts were cleaned. A visit arranged in advance is far less disruptive than a callout on a busy day.
The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

Different parts, different methods
Access panels
Extra panels can be installed where there are gaps, making future cleans more complete. We’ll recommend where they should go.
Attenuators and discharge
At the end of the duct is the discharge. It can gather grease and mark the wall or roof around it, so it’s cleaned as far as safe access allows.
Between visits
How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
- Do not block access panels with shelving or stock
- Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
- Run the extract fan throughout service
Any section of duct we couldn’t reach is listed on the report, with the reason. We can fit access panels so those sections are cleaned next time.
The less grease gets past the canopy, the cleaner the duct stays. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.
Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Cookham
Wherever the kitchen is, in Cookham or elsewhere, the duct fills in the same way: hours of cooking, the type of food and how well the filters are kept. BESA guidance sets minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months depending on daily use.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
- Sections of duct with no access panels
- Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
- A duct nobody has opened in years
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Cookham is Marlow Community Hospital, about 2.1 miles north-west.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether VAT is included
- Whether a written report and photos are included
- Whether a survey comes first
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
- Any permits to work or inductions
- The times the site is available
- How many systems or sites are involved
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re not sure what’s needed, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
What we need to know
We can often survey from pictures. Try to include:
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.
Grease, kitchens and Cookham
Food Standards Agency records list about 20 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 3 sandwich bars and takeaways in and around Cookham, up to about a mile and a half out. The duct above a busy canopy coats itself in grease long before anyone sees it. Food hygiene inspections in Cookham are the job of Windsor and Maidenhead council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. The fire and rescue service for Cookham is Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St John the Baptist or anywhere around Cookham, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Cookham Rise Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

What happens on the day
Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Tell us when your site near Cookham is quiet and the visit will be booked for then.
- We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
- We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
- We open the panels and scrape out the heaviest grease.
- The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
- Readings and photos are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.
Getting ready for the visit
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
