Sundridge questions

Can parking be tricky for a job in Sundridge?

A loading bay, a visitor permit or off-street space near the site in Sundridge makes the visit easier to plan. Much of our London work is done overnight, which helps.

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Sundridge?

Sundridge is in the area of London Fire Brigade. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Is Sundridge in your area?

Yes. Sundridge is part of the area we cover, as part of our area across London and the South East.

What do you do to protect the area?

We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.

Is the inside of the hood cleaned?

The whole canopy, inside and out. The plenum behind the filters is included because that’s often the dirtiest part.

Where does the waste go?

We take it away when we go. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. We always survey first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.

Why is my canopy dripping grease?

Full gutters and a heavily coated plenum are the common causes. With nowhere to collect, the grease overflows, and condensation can carry it too. Cleaning the canopy and plenum clears it.

How we handle canopy cleaning in Sundridge

We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you’re dealing with a sticky, discoloured canopy and wet, greasy drips from the hood, we can put it right.

London kitchens tend to trade late and open early, so work in Sundridge is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.

Every visit ends with a written report and pictures, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before work begins, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Before any visit in Sundridge, we agree where the van can stop and how equipment reaches the system.

  1. The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Move anything stored near the system

How to get a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.

Advice

What the work involves, part by part

Pub and hotel kitchens

Staff in pub and hotel kitchens work under the canopy all day, so drips and smells soon become a daily nuisance. Cleaning the canopy and plenum sorts it.

Wall canopies

A long wall canopy may hold several sections of filters. Each section’s plenum and housing is cleaned in turn, with pictures for each.

Common problems we fix in Sundridge

The plenum is hidden behind the filters, so nobody sees it build up. Kitchen staff clean what they can see, so the plenum often carries months of grease.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • A hood coated in old grease
  • Wet, greasy drips from the hood
  • Poor capture at the hood
  • A filter housing caked in grease

Commuter trade near Sundridge Park station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands.

What staff can safely do

When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Leave it or put it right?

Grease on the canopy is sitting just above the heat source. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. London buildings are shared, so a fire or failure in one system can reach the neighbours above and beside you.

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Sundridge

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 157 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 72 takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Sundridge. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. In Sundridge, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Bromley council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Night work suits London kitchens, and roads and loading bays tend to be quieter too.

Where a hall near St Andrew, or anywhere in Sundridge, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. A hospital like Bromley Hospital, about 1.4 miles south, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

What affects the quote in Sundridge

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • What state the system is in
  • How many systems or sites are involved

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Helping us quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Problems your staff have spotted

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
