Canopy cleaning in Staple: the local picture
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 5 pubs, bars and clubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Staple. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Staple sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. In Staple, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Dover council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St James or anywhere around Staple, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

About our canopy cleaning in Staple
Has the canopy started to drip or look neglected? Send us a photo of the hood and filters when you call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we’ll send you a fixed quote for canopy cleaning, usually within one working day. If you have poor capture at the hood and filters that never seem to stay clean, we can help, from grease gutters, canopy light fittings and island canopies onwards.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Multi-site and managed buildings
For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
What we’re called out for in Staple
Air straight off the range hits the canopy first. Fat in that air settles on the inside of the hood, in its seams and on the filters, and the plenum behind them collects the rest.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Condensation and grease dripping together
- Grease channels that no longer drain
- A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
- Poor capture at the hood
Goodnestone Park, about 1.9 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses near Staple; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.
What your quote should include
- What insurance they carry
- Whether VAT is included
- Whether a written report and pictures are included
- How they set the interval to the next visit
How it works
The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up, and we clear up before we go. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in Staple knowing what to expect.
- We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
- We protect everything below once it has cooled.
- Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
- Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
- You get photos of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.
How to prepare
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
How to get a quote
Getting a quote does not take long. Call or email with a few details and you will usually have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

What canopy cleaning can’t fix
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
- A canopy undersized for the equipment
Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
Where we work
- Island canopies
- Wall canopies
- Baffle filters
- Grease gutters
- Plenum chambers
- Canopy light fittings
Keeping the system healthy
So the system stays in good health:
- Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
- Wipe the canopy down at close every day
- Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
- Keep every filter in place while cooking
Anything worth knowing goes into the report: bent or poorly fitting filters, a light cover that is cracked, or troughs that fill too quickly. We keep it to what matters.
Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.
Staple: your questions answered
Do you work in villages like Staple?
Yes. Staple is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Can school kitchens in Staple be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Food Standards Agency records list about 3 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Staple. You can ring 0345 646 2711 or email us with the dates the site is empty.
What does TR19 mean?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
What happens if you can’t reach some of it?
Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we explain what access is needed, such as extra access panels in ductwork.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
What happens to the waste?
It leaves the site with us when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
Is TR19 cleaning required by law?
No. TR19® itself isn’t law; it’s a BESA specification. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.
What your team can do, and what needs us
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
Why act early in Staple
A greasy canopy is fuel directly above the flame. A flare-up can catch it and be drawn into the plenum and duct, where a fire is much harder to stop. Cleaning it removes that fuel. In a small place like Staple, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.
