Canopy Cleaning in Durlock
Canopy cleaning for Durlock and the surrounding area: a survey, a fixed price, careful work and proper paperwork. Ask us for a fixed quote.
- A filter housing caked in grease
- Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
- Condensation running down the canopy
What affects the quote in Durlock
Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:
- The size of the system
- The number of sites or systems
- The condition we find in the survey
- How easy every part is to reach
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you are not sure what’s needed, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
What to send for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- The site address and the type of premises
Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you’ll usually have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Canopy cleaning in Durlock, done properly
Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers baffle filters, wall canopies and island canopies, and common reasons people get in touch are smoke hanging around the canopy during service and a sticky, discoloured canopy.
Work in a small place like Durlock starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with photos of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Why it’s worth doing now in Durlock
Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Heat from the range bakes canopy grease into a hard, dark layer, which makes a later clean slower and harder. In a small place like Durlock, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we will price it together.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.
What canopy cleaning looks like in Durlock
The FSA’s data shows about 4 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Durlock. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. It’s Dover council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Durlock. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Durlock is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
For schools such as Ash Cartwright and Kelsey Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Where a hall near Church of St Nicholas, or anywhere in Durlock, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Durlock (Goodnestone Park is about 2.7 miles south-west), fitting access panels needs care.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Durlock
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Durlock?
The local authority for Durlock is Dover council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
Is Durlock within the area you cover?
Yes. Durlock is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.
What about areas you can’t get to?
The report shows them clearly. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.
Do you provide photos of the cleaned canopy?
A photo report, with before and after pictures of the canopy and plenum. It also gives a recommended date for the next clean.
How long is a canopy clean?
That depends on the size of the canopy and how much grease is on it. As a guide, it takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits.
Are you accredited?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.

When it’s something else
We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:
- Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- A dirty extract fan further along the system
If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
Parts of the system we cover
- Grease gutters
- Baffle filters
- Wall canopies
- Canopy light fittings
- Plenum chambers
- Island canopies
Looking after it afterwards
Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
- Leave the extract running until cooking stops
- Check all filters are fitted before service
- Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
Keep the photo report with your maintenance log where an inspector can see it. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.
Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.
Part by part
Island canopies
With filters on more than one side, an island canopy has more plenum to clean. We work round the canopy, cleaning each filter bank and plenum.
Grease troughs and gutters
Many canopies have troughs or gutters around the edge to catch running grease. They’re emptied and cleaned during the job, so they can do their job again.
What happens on the day
There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Durlock before we set off.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
- Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
- We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
- The canopy is signed off with before and after photos and a next clean date.
Preparing for the visit
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
