Canopy cleaning in Radley

Aftercare tips

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
  • Clean the baffle filters often
  • Run the extract the whole time you are cooking
  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated

The report gives a recommended next clean date. That date is based on your cooking hours and what we found, in line with BESA guidance.

Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and never cook with one missing. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.

Canopy cleaning in Radley, done properly

The canopy is the part of the extract everyone in the kitchen sees. It’s also the first place cooking vapour meets, so grease gathers on its inner skin, seams and gutters. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. The work covers plenum chambers, canopy light fittings and grease gutters, and people most often call us about drips from the canopy onto the range and canopy gutters full of old fat.

Work in a small place like Radley starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Every visit ends with a written report and pictures, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What happens if it’s left?

In Radley, as elsewhere, a greasy canopy is one of the first things an inspector sees. A clean hood is a sign the kitchen is cared for, and it’s far easier to keep clean than to rescue. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.

Questions from Radley

Do you work in villages like Radley?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Radley included. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Can you come to Radley after we close?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Radley needn’t be disturbed. When you call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, mention when the site is quiet.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. We always survey first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. Then you get a fixed quote.

Why is my canopy dripping grease?

A canopy only holds so much grease. Once the troughs and plenum are full, it runs down and drips, often mixed with condensation. Cleaning removes the cause.

How much notice should we give?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

TR19® Grease is about the whole extract, from canopy to discharge. A canopy clean helps between full cleans, but the ducts and fan still need doing, and the report will say what was covered.

What about areas you cannot get to?

They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.

When it’s something else

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what canopy cleaning will not do:

  • Electrical faults in the canopy
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Where we work

  • Baffle filters
  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies
  • Plenum chambers
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Island canopies

How the visit works

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the photos you sent. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in Radley knowing what to expect.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

How to prepare

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

Getting a quote

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Grease, kitchens and Radley

Look up Radley on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 4 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 6 sandwich bars and takeaways in Radley and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. In Radley, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Vale of White Horse council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Radley sits within the area of Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Radley Church of England Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. A kitchen near Radley station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St James or anywhere around Radley, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

What affects the quote in Radley

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The scale of the work
  • What state the system is in
  • The number of sites or systems

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

Helping us quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Your last certificate, test record or report

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
